184 Chapter 184
184.Chapter 184
“Mr. Lawson said he’ll be coming over himself today, so we just need to wait at the office,” Ella said in a low voice.
“Let’s head to the office,” Ophelia replied, setting the files aside, looking cool and collected. It was like she’d already figured everything out.
As soon as Ophelia set the files aside, Ella raised an eyebrow, her face full of mischief as she teased, “Boss, I heard Mr. Caldwell spent a whole week with you in Clearwater. So, did you two get any closer?”
Seeing Ella’s gossipy look, Ophelia rolled her eyes. “Don’t get any ideas.”
Ella was stunned, blinking in disbelief. “Seriously? Boss, you’re not kidding me, are you?”
‘A whole week together and still no progress?’ Ella thought, completely baffled.
Ophelia just shot her a calm look and said, “Why would I lie to you?”
“Boss, Mr. Caldwell is basically the most eligible guy in all of Dunhollow. You really mean you’re not even a little tempted?” Ella stared at her, totally confused.
‘Seriously, Boss, how does that even make sense?’ Ella thought, still trying to figure it out.
Ophelia’s eyes went cold for a second as she replied, “It doesn’t matter.”
“Then what actually matters?” Ella was totally stumped, unable to wrap her head around it.
Alaric Caldwell was basically perfect. He is smart, rich, good-looking, you name it. Tons of girls dreamed of marrying him, but none of them have ever even gotten a glance from him.
But when it came to Ophelia, she acted like he was nothing special, maybe even a little repulsed.
Ophelia locked eyes with Ella, her voice sharp and decisive. “What matters is that it’s got nothing to do with me, period.”
Alaric might be all that, but honestly, that’s his own deal-not mine.
“How does it not matter? You guys are engaged!” Ella blurted out, as if it was just common sense.
If someone else had a fiancé like Alaric, they’d be showing off everywhere, making it public for the world to see.
“You really think Alaric would ever let himself get chained down by some family arrangement?” Ophelia scoffed.
The Rowle and Caldwell families have had this engagement for years, but Alaric’s never even acknowledged it once. Anyone who actually believes in that engagement is just kidding themselves.
“Makes sense,” Ella nodded, her eyes lighting up as she looked at Ophelia, swearing up and down, “So that means Mr. Caldwell is totally into you, Boss!”
Ophelia’s lips twitched. ‘How does she even come up with this stuff? Is that really what I was saying?’ she thought, completely speechless at Ella’s wild logic.
“Ella,” Ophelia sighed, shaking her head. “Don’t turn into a hopeless romantic, especially not just because someone’s hot.”
“Huh?” Ella scrunched up her face, clearly not buying it. “Boss, that’s not being a lovesick fool! I’ve got actual logic behind this, okay?”
“Think about it. Mr. Caldwell would never let some engagement tie him down, but when it comes to you, he’s always looking out for you. If that’s not love, then what is? He’s totally into you, and I mean for real,” Ella insisted, her eyes serious and her tone full of conviction.
Ophelia curled her lips into a sly smile, her tone playful and a little sarcastic. “You know what Alaric’s really like? On the outside, he’s all soft and sweet, but inside, he’s pure black: totally scheming.”
