185 Chapter 185
185.Chapter 185
Anyway, Ella just couldn’t shake the feeling that there was way more going on between those two than what Boss said. Ophelia leaned back in her seat, giving a noncommittal little shake of her head.
The car pulled up, and the two of them headed into the office.
The secretary immediately stepped forward respectfully. “Ms. Rowle, Ms. Prescott, Mr. Lawson is already here and waiting in the conference room.”
“Okay.” Ophelia’s gaze was cool as she strode gracefully toward the conference room.
Ella followed behind, hugging a stack of files to her chest, channeling her inner VP with all the confidence she could muster.
The afternoon sun was golden and gentle.
After wrapping up the investment meeting with Mr. Lawson and finalizing the business adjustment strategy, Ophelia brought Ella along to a finance summit.
This finance summit was Dunhollow’s premier annual event, drawing only the city’s top business elites. Many of the industry’s biggest investment titans would be in attendance.
When Ophelia was away, Ella had been the one attending these meetings, scouting out promising investment firms. But now that Ophelia was back, with her keen eye for opportunity, it was only natural for her to take charge herself.
Word had gotten out that Rowan Draven would be making an appearance, so the place was packed with people hoping to score some investment.
As soon as Ella walked in, all eyes were on her.
But instead of Rowan, everyone just saw a young girl tagging along with Ella.
“Man, I heard Ms. Draven from Maplewood Capital was supposed to show up today. Where is she? And who’s that girl with Ms. Prescott?” someone muttered, eyeing Ophelia with curiosity.
“Yeah, we were all hoping to meet Ms. Draven. So she didn’t come? Is that Ms. Prescott’s new assistant?” another person guessed, looking disappointed. “But she’s definitely easy on the eyes.”
That left everyone hoping to meet Rowan feeling pretty disappointed.
Meanwhile, Ella had already followed Ophelia to their seats.
But the crowd was stunned when they saw Ophelia settling into the main seat.
“Wait, why is that assistant sitting in the main seat?” someone blurted out.
“Yeah, and Ms. Prescott is being really respectful to her…” another person muttered.
While the crowd kept whispering, a voice dripping with hostility suddenly rang out right next to Ella and Ophelia. “Ms. Prescott, we meet again.”
Ophelia turned to see a bald, overweight man stomping over, his face twisted in a scowl as he glared at Ella. “So, Ms. Prescott, you snubbed our Kingston Group project, but you’re all in on the Lawson Group, even though they’re about to go under. What, did Lawson offer you something we couldn’t?”
As he spoke, Mr. Kingston shot Ella a nasty look, his whole demeanor sleazy and full of malice.
Ophelia frowned slightly, immediately realizing who he was. She’d just rejected a deal with Kingston Group, so this had to be Mr. Kingston himself.
Ella shot him a frosty glare, her voice sharp with contempt. “Mr. Kingston, watch your mouth. Maplewood Capital has our own standards for picking projects. If you got rejected, maybe you, should figure out why and ask yourself if you even measure up.”
‘Please, it’s not her fault you’re not good enough. And now you’re running your mouth, throwing shade at her and Mr. Lawson; Ella sneered inwardly, her disgust barely contained.
“Hmph, who are you to judge me?” Mr. Kingston’s face twitched with irritation as he puffed himself up, his tone full of arrogance.
“Here’s a tip for you. Don’t get too cocky in business. Sure, your company’s hot right now, but the bigger you get, the more people want to take you down. Don’t get too full of yourselves, or you’ll end up burning all your bridges.”
He honestly couldn’t believe it. He’d gone to M Successfully unlocked! n investment deal, and they’d just flat-out
