190 Chapter 190
190.Chapter 190
Watching Ella bolt like she was escaping a fire, Ophelia’s face darkened. ‘Seriously? She just ditched me with Alaric like that? Some friend, she thought..
“Your right-hand’s not bad at all,” Alaric remarked, sounding genuinely approving.
Ophelia shot him a look and muttered, “Are you being sarcastic right now?”
‘How did you even come to that conclusion?’ she thought.
‘What’s so great about that?’ she wondered.
‘He’s probably loving that I got left behind with him, she grumbled inwardly.
Alaric rubbed his nose, looking a bit guilty, and switched gears fast. “Alright, since Ella just ditched you with me, guess it’s my job to get you home, Ophelia.”
Not like he could say out loud that all it took was one look from him and Ella jumped out. The girl really knew when to make herself scarce.
“I drove here myself, so you don’t need to trouble yourself, Mr. Caldwell,” Ophelia said, shooting him a warning glare. Her tone was all warning.
‘Don’t follow me. Just stay away, she thought.
With that, Ophelia slung her backpack over her shoulder, spun around, and walked off without looking back.
Alaric shook his head with a wry smile, deliberately falling a step behind as he followed her. No need to rush, he knew better than to crowd her.
‘Better not get too close, or this little wildcat will start bristling,’ he mused.
And just like that, the two of them walked out of the venue together.
But as soon as they stepped out of the venue, Ophelia caught a glimpse of a shadow flashing by in front of her.
She instinctively looked over, just in time to see someone zip past her, making a beeline straight for Alaric.
“Sorry, I wasn’t looking…” Layla started, but before she could even finish, she totally wiped out with a loud thud. –
Layla was left face-down on the floor, looking absolutely lost, like she was rethinking her whole life.
‘Wait a sec, this is all wrong! Wasn’t I supposed to bump right into Alaric’s arms, do the whole “oops, sorry, I’m so clumsy” act, and then he’d play the hero. Help me up, maybe even fuss over me a little? That’s how this scene is supposed to go!’ Layla mentally facepalmed, feeling like the script had totally glitched.
‘How did I end up face-planting on the floor instead? And why didn’t Alaric swoop in and catch me like some knight in shining armor?’ Layla wondered, mortified and utterly confused.
Ophelia’s eyes narrowed for a split second. She clocked who was face-down on the ground right away.
“Layla, what are you even doing? Are you auditioning for a mud-eating contest or something?” Ophelia mocked, arms crossed as she looked down at her.
‘Seriously, this two-faced bitch pops up everywhere. There’s no getting rid of her, Ophelia thought.
Layla had always been sniffing around rich guys, desperate to save the Vossen Group. So she showed up here, probably hoping for another shot.
‘So that’s what she was after… Looks like she’s aiming for Alaric this time, Ophelia mused.
Ophelia gave Alaric a teasing look, her eyes glinting with mischief.
‘This scheming wolf really does attract all kinds of drama, she thought.
“Ophelia, that girl wasn’t even watching where she was going. She almost crashed right into me! Good thing I dodged fast,” Alaric playfully tattled, sidling up to her and acting all cute, like a spoiled hubby begging for praise.
Ophelia’s lips twitched. ‘Alaric, seriously, enough already. Come any closer and I swear I’m going to snap,’ she thought.
Alaric’s lips curled into a barely noticeable smirk, clearly pleased with her reaction. ‘She wants to see me embarrassed? No way. If anything, this is the perfect chance to stick close and get a little touchy. I gotta make the most of it, he thought. Layla struggled to get up, completely ignored by the two of them. She was boiling with rage, but had to swallow it down and play nice.
