Ophelia Gets Thrown Out (Ophelia) novel Chapter 194

194 Chapter 194

194.Chapter 194

Ophelia shot Ella a sideways look, her voice carrying a dangerous edge. “Now that you mention it… Why’d you bail on me and leave me hanging?”

Ella flinched, giving a nervous, fawning grin. “Hey, as your good wingwoman, I gotta know when to disappear, right? You really wanted me to stick around and play third wheel?”

“You’re overthinking it,” Ophelia said, totally exasperated.

‘Third wheel? She wasn’t even a flickering candle in the background; Ophelia thought, rolling her eyes.

“Overthinking it?” Ella gave Ophelia a skeptical once-over, grumbling, “Boss, you won’t even let your most loyal right-hand woman in on the secret? That’s cold, seriously.”

Ella made a face, feeling a bit left out. ‘Ugh, Boss won’t tell me anything. So unfair,’ she thought, sulking.

Ophelia felt a headache coming on. ‘Gossiping is one thing, but now she’s practically forcing me to spill?’ she thought, exasperated.

She let out a sigh, shaking her head, her tone laced with a warning. “If you’ve got so much free time, I can always pile on more work for you. Make sure you don’t have a second to daydream.”

“No, no, I’m not free at all! I’m super busy!” Ella immediately backed down, flashing her most obsequious grin.

Ophelia shot her a look, and once she saw Ella had finally behaved, she straightened up and headed for her office.

Ella didn’t dare press any further, but she kept frowning and muttering under her breath,

“Seriously, there’s no way Boss and Mr. Caldwell have nothing going on. They look perfect together, and the vibe between them is way too flirty to be just friends. Am I really imagining things? No way…”

Still mumbling and shaking her head in confusion, Ella trailed after Ophelia into the office, totally baffled.

Ophelia sat down at her desk and glanced up at Ella, who instantly switched to her most sycophantic smile and set a document down. “Boss, here’s the fax from Mr. Lawson.”

Ophelia couldn’t help but roll her eyes at Ella before taking the file.

‘As if I didn’t hear her mumbling, Ophelia thought, a little exasperated. ‘Honestly, it’s not worth the effort to explain. I’ll just let her stew in her own gossip.’

Ella stuck out her tongue, looking a bit embarrassed. “Boss, Mr. Lawson’s moving fast-he’s already shutting down a few subsidiaries and consolidating the core projects.”

Not daring to gossip about Ophelia anymore, Ella switched gears, her expression turning serious and professional as she talked business.

“Okay,” Ophelia murmured, scanning the document as Ella spoke. A hint of satisfaction flickered in her usually cool gaze.

Even though the Lawson Group was in a rough patch right now, their main projects were still solid investments. If managed well, they could show some serious growth.

That was exactly why Ophelia had set her sights on the Lawson Group. Now that she was invested, she was determined to give it her all and make it the best it could be.

“Have someone coordinate with the Lawson Group, and make absolutely sure they comply fully with the contract terms,” Ophelia said, nodding in satisfaction as she gave the order.

“Got it,” Ella replied, then glanced at Ophelia again. “Boss, ever since you showed up at the finance conference yesterday, a bunch of companies have been reaching out, hoping for our investment.

“Like always, I turned down all the meeting requests and told them to send over their project proposals first.”

That was always the rule when it came to working with Maplewood Capital. They only bothered to check out a company if they liked what they saw in the proposal. No point wasting time on something that didn’t measure up.

“Knock, knock, knock.”

Just as they were talking, a knock sounded at the door.
