203 Chapter 203
203.Chapter 203
Declan furrowed his brows just a little, shooting Ophelia a questioning look.
“See you, Declan,” Ophelia said with a polite smile, then turned and walked away.
She didn’t need Declan to walk her out, and it wasn’t because of Alaric. She just didn’t feel like explaining
Alaric, meanwhile, looked a bit pleased with himself, and the tension around him seemed to lift.
“Declan, give my regards to Connor Blackwell. I won’t go in and bother him,” Alaric said, then fell into step beside Ophelia.
Walking next to her, he looked just like a proud peacock, with a self-satisfied air, as if basking in her approval.
Watching the two of them walk away, Declan’s frown deepened, his eyes darkening as he murmured, “He called her Ophelia… Just how close are Alaric and Ophelia, anyway?”
‘Why does that name sound so wrong coming from him? Why does it bother me so much?’ Declan wondered.
Declan kept watching until Ophelia and Alaric disappeared from view, then finally tore his gaze away and returned to his
room.
As soon as Declan walked in, Connor Blackwell sat up, unable to hide his impatience. “So, any progress with Ophelia?”
“Progress? What progress?” Declan blinked, clearly not following.
“You and Ophelia! You walked her out-did you really not talk about anything else?” Connor frowned, giving Declan a look that screamed, ‘I can’t believe this kid.’
‘Seriously? I told him to walk Ophelia out, and he just did that with nothing else?’ Connor grumbled inwardly, feeling utterly exasperated.
“No,” Declan replied, shaking his head as he sat down. He grabbed an apple and said, “Here, I’ll peel one for you.”
“Do I look like I want an apple?” Connor grumbled, clearly annoyed.
‘That was the perfect chance, and he just wasted it, Connor thought, frustrated.
Declan put down the apple and knife. He was feeling frustrated and tried to steer the conversation away, but no matter what, that nagging feeling in his chest just wouldn’t go away.
Declan took a deep breath, glanced up at Connor, and after a moment’s hesitation, asked quietly, “Grandpa, are Ophelia and Alaric… close?”
Connor looked surprised, blurting out, “Did you run into that Caldwell boy?”
“Yeah, we saw him at the entrance. Ophelia left with him,” Declan said, a hint of loneliness flickering in his eyes. Just remembering Alaric calling her Ophelia-so casually, like it was some special nickname-made something twist inside him.’ Why does it bother me so much when he calls her that?’ he wondered.
“Oh, man!” Connor groaned, rubbing his temples in frustration. ‘Guess I blew it this time,’ he thought, feeling like his plan had just gone sideways.
‘If I’d known Alaric was going to show up, I would’ve kept Ophelia around a bit longer,’ Connor muttered to himself, kicking himself for missing the chance.
“Grandpa, what’s wrong?” Declan asked, watching Connor closely. He couldn’t shake the feeling that something was off about his grandfather’s reaction.
