Ophelia Gets Thrown Out (Ophelia) novel Chapter 204

204 Chapter 204

204.Chapter 204

“If he decides he wants this marriage, there’s no way you’re talking him out of it. While nothing’s set in stone yet, you’d better step up and do something. Don’t say I didn’t warn you if you end up losing her!”

Declan dropped his gaze, putting on a calm front. “Grandpa, you’re really reading too much into this. Ophelia and I are just classmates, nothing more…”

“Just classmates, huh? Sure, kid, keep telling yourself that,” Connor snorted. ‘He actually thinks he can play it cool in front of me? I practically raised him. Does he really think I can’t see right through that act?’ Connor thought, shaking his head in disbelief.

Declan stayed silent, his head lowered. Even without a word, his posture said more than words ever could. His mood was written all over him.

His mind was in turmoil, that vague, restless feeling gnawing at him from within.

‘Am I… catching feelings for her?’ Declan thought, startled by the idea.

‘No, that can’t be it, he tried to convince himself.

But there was something about Ophelia-so bright, so bold, so confident-that just pulled him in.

The parking lot in the hospital.

“Mr. Caldwell, you’ve been following me all the way here. I’m heading home now. Don’t tell me you’re planning to keep following me around?” Ophelia stopped and turned to face him, sounding a bit fed up.

‘This guy’s been off ever since he ran into Declan. What’s up with him?’ Ophelia wondered.

“Ophelia, have dinner with me,” Alaric said, arching an eyebrow and giving her that smoldering, lovesick look.

Ophelia rolled her eyes at him, looking totally unimpressed. “Not happening, Mr. Caldwell. Go eat by yourself.”

“You don’t want to eat with me, so you’d rather have dinner with Declan, is that it?” Alaric gave her a dramatic, wounded look, acting all hurt like she’d just broken his heart.

Ophelia stared at him, totally incredulous. “Are you kidding me? I was just here to see Connor Blackwell and happened to run into Declan. Who said anything about having dinner with him?”

“So what were you two talking about at the door? You looked like you really didn’t want to say goodbye,” Alaric said, his tone full of wounded drama, like he’d just been betrayed by his crush but couldn’t bring himself to blame her.

“I just told him not to walk me out,” Ophelia retorted, shooting Alaric an annoyed glare. “Can you stop jumping to conclusions?”

“That’s really all?” Alaric eyed her suspiciously, clearly not buying it.

“Of course! Wait! Hold on, that’s not even the point,” Ophelia said, finally realizing what he was getting at. She shot him a frustrated look. “What does any of this have to do with you? Why are you interrogating me like I’m on trial?”

‘I knew it, this guy is totally acting weird, Ophelia thought, rolling her eyes.

‘Why does he look like he just caught me two-timing or something? Like I did something to betray him, she muttered to herself, annoyed.

“Ophelia, you really think this has nothing to do with me? Seriously, you’re killing me here,” Alaric said, clutching his chest like he’d just been stabbed in the heart, looking as if she’d shattered his soul.

Ophelia let out an exasperated sigh and massaged her aching temples.

‘Here we go again, she thought, rolling her eyes.

‘Mr. Caldwell, do you even care about your reputation anymore?’ she grumbled to herself.

“Mr. Caldwell, are you having another one of your drama king moments?” Ophelia gave him a sideways look, thinking, ‘Fine, I’ll just stand here and watch you put on your show’

“I’m being totally sincere here, Ophelia. If you don’t believe me, are you really doubting your own charm?” Alaric said, looking all pitiful, like a big puppy just begging for attention.
