Ophelia Gets Thrown Out (Ophelia) novel Chapter 209

209 Chapter 209

209.Chapter 209

“Mr. Caldwell, Ms. Draven, I won’t keep you any longer. Please, go ahead,” Mr. Kingston said, pulling Layla aside and stepping out of the way, nodding and smiling obsequiously.

Right now, all he wanted was to get these two big shots out of here as fast as possible. Every time he ran into them, he always ended up getting the worst of it.

“Let’s go, Ophelia,” Alaric murmured, slipping his arm around her waist.

Ophelia shot him a look, her brows furrowing in warning. ‘Let go of me.’

“They’re watching us. If I let go now, they’ll see right through us,” Alaric whispered close to her ear.

“You really think I’m worried about being exposed?” Ophelia rolled her eyes. If he hadn’t shown up, she could’ve handled this on her own.

Alaric’s gaze softened, overflowing with affection. “I’m the one who’s worried about getting caught,” he said gently. Honestly, he wished it was real. If only she’d just admit it, things would be so much easier.

Ophelia glared at him, her voice tight with annoyance. “Who told you to go around saying I’m your fiancée?”

Her eyes burned with frustration. ‘He just says whatever he wants, doesn’t he?’

‘Now he cares about keeping up appearances? Now he’s worried about looking bad?’ Ophelia thought, exasperated.

“It’s always been true. You’re just too stubborn to admit it,” Alaric said, tightening his hold as he guided her into the restaurant.

“Shut up. That’s not happening,” Ophelia snapped.

“I’ll make it happen,” Alaric replied with a smirk.

“Keep dreaming,” Ophelia shot back.

They were bickering under their breath, but to everyone else, they looked like the perfect lovestruck couple.

Layla watched them, her gaze growing more and more sinister with every passing second.

‘That guy is always standing up for Ophelia. Why does she get to be so happy?’ Layla fumed, jealousy twisting inside her.

‘And me?’ Layla thought bitterly, resentment gnawing at her.

She’d worked so hard to cozy up to Mr. Kingston, and now he was scared stiff of that man.

Ophelia had just smashed her pride into the ground, and Layla was burning with hatred.

“Mr. Kingston, I thought you were supposed to be so powerful! Why did you suddenly turn into a doormat in front of that guy?” Layla snapped, her frustration boiling over. ‘So much for relying on him. He’s useless!’

“Shut up! Do you even realize who that is?” Mr. Kingston shot back, his glare icy. “That’s Alaric Caldwell, the man who runs the Caldwell Group in Dunhollow.”

“Alaric Caldwell? Caldwell Group?” Layla echoed, still confused, until the truth hit her and her face went sheet-white. “You mean… He’s actually the CEO of the Caldwell Group?”

‘He’s the heir to the Caldwell family, the guy every rich girl in Dunhollow dreams of marrying?’ Layla’s mind spun, disbelief and envy crashing together.

“If you piss him off, you think the Kingston Group stands a chance? Forget saving the Vossen Group or your precious Vossen family. You’d be lucky not to end up sleeping on the street,” Mr. Kingston muttered, still rattled.

He’d only wanted to teach Rowan Draven a lesson, but he almost ended up getting himself destroyed instead. “She’s really Alaric Caldwell’s fiancée?” Layla muttered, her voice trembling with jealousy. ‘Why her? What makes her so special? Why does she get everything?’

It felt like her whole world was crashing down around her.

‘Why does Ophelia always land on her feet, while I just keep getting the short end of the stick?’ Layla fumed.

She’d always been flat broke, and now that she was finally back with the Vossen family, they were on the verge of going under too.

Layla looked lost in thought, her expression stormy and unpredictable Mr Kingston frowned and said, “Just stay away from me for a while.”
