211 Chapter 211
211.Chapter 211
Night had fallen.
After dinner, Ophelia returned home to the Rowle estate.
As expected, Alaric insisted on taking her home.
“I’ll go in and say hi to your folks,” Alaric said, giving Ophelia a helpless look.
‘She really keeps her guard up around me, he thought, a little amused.
Ophelia crossed her arms and blocked the doorway. “You should go. Everyone’s turned in for the night.”
‘Is he seriously trying to come in?’ Ophelia wondered.
‘If he gets inside, there’s no way I could talk my way out of that.’
“Ophelia, am I really that embarrassing to you?” Alaric asked, giving her his most pitiful look.
Ophelia pushed his face away. “Enough with the drama. Go home. If you don’t leave now, my family will catch you.”
‘If that happens, getting him out of here will be a whole lot harder,’ she thought.
“You’re really cruel,” Alaric sighed, though he couldn’t hide the fondness in his voice.
“Fine, I’ll do as you say, Ophelia. I’m heading out,” Alaric lingered for a moment, clearly reluctant to leave, but he knew he had to go.
“Ophelia, what are you doing out here?” Victoria called from the yard.
Ophelia’s heart skipped a beat. She practically shoved Alaric into his car, quickly turning toward the yard and calling out,” Nothing, mom! I’m fine.”
Then she shot Alaric a look, whispering urgently, “Go, now!”
Alaric couldn’t help but chuckle. “Ophelia, the way you’re acting makes it look like we’re sneaking around together.”
Ophelia’s face darkened, and she gritted her teeth. “Seriously, what are you even talking about?”
“Doesn’t it look like it?” Alaric gave her his best puppy eyes, all innocent.
Ophelia shot him a look of pure annoyance. “Just go home and dream about it.”
“Alright,” Alaric agreed, then gave her a look full of hope, his eyes brimming with affection. “Don’t forget to dream about me tonight, Ophelia.”
“Smack!”
Ophelia smacked him on the forehead and shoved him into the car. “Shut up and go already!”
‘This guy really knows how to push his luck, Ophelia thought, exasperated.
With Victoria’s footsteps getting closer behind her, Ophelia shot Alaric a fierce glare, her eyes full of warning. ‘Stop staring and get moving, now!’ she urged him silently.
Watching her freak out about getting caught by her family, Alaric just shook his head, half exasperated and half amused.
“You owe me for this,” Alaric said with a sly grin, clearly in no rush to leave.
Ophelia knew he was totally milking the situation, but she could only grit her teeth and mutter, “Just go, hurry up!”
‘If he doesn’t leave right now, it’s seriously game over. I can already feel Mom breathing down my neck,’ Ophelia thought, her nerves stretched tight.
“Deal, Alaric said with a satisfied grin, firing up the engine and pulling away.
Ophelia let out a long, dramatic sigh of relief. ‘Thank god, he’s finally out of here, she thought.
“Ophelia, what are you doing out here? Why aren’t you coming inside?” Victoria walked over, clearly puzzled as she looked at her.
“Oh, nothing, I was just about to go in,” Ophelia flashed a quick smile, trying her best to act natural and hoping she didn’t look suspicious,
Victoria glanced over at the car that was pulling away, looking a little confused. “Was that Alaric’s car? Did you go out with him? Why didn’t you let him come in?”
“No, Morn, you’re seeing things,” Ophelia blurted
