212 Chapter 212
212.Chapter 212
“He was just asking for directions, mom. You’re really overthinking it,” Ophelia said, looping her arm through Victoria’s with a teasing smile. “Come on, let’s head inside.”
“But…” Victoria still felt like she’d seen that car somewhere before.
“Mom, how come you’re still up this late?” Ophelia quickly changed the subject, trying to steer her attention away from the
car.
‘Doesn’t matter how suspicious mom gets, I’m never spilling the beans, Ophelia thought, steeling herself.
Victoria glanced back at her, and Ophelia instantly felt her nerves spike. Her smile was so stiff it was almost painful.
Victoria gave her a knowing smile and replied gently, “I was just about to get some rest. Come on, let’s go inside.”
‘So that’s it. I wasn’t mistaken at all. She’s just too shy to talk about it, Victoria mused, a little amused.
‘Well, if that’s what she wants, I’ll let her have it her way,’ Victoria thought, her heart softening.
‘It’s not like I won’t find out sooner or later. When she’s ready, she’ll tell me herself,’ Victoria thought, feeling a little amused.
“Okay,” Ophelia replied, but the look on Victoria’s face made her feel kind of weird.
‘What’s with Mom? Why does she look like she totally knows what’s up but won’t say it?’ Ophelia wondered, feeling awkward.
Then it hit her, and Ophelia couldn’t help but sigh to herself. ‘Mom must’ve guessed something and totally jumped to the wrong conclusion, she thought, feeling helpless.
‘This is all Alaric’s fault. If he hadn’t kept hanging around and wouldn’t leave, none of this would’ve happened,’ Ophelia grumbled to herself, even more annoyed.
‘Seriously, Alaric, this is all your fault, Ophelia thought, feeling her annoyance with him grow even stronger.
The next day.
The sun was shining brightly.
Ophelia arrived at work and headed into her office, but even though it was still early, she looked exhausted.
Of all things, she actually dreamed about Alaric last night. No wonder she barely got any sleep.
“That jerk. Seriously, does he ever let me catch a break?” Ophelia grumbled, exasperated.
“Knock, knock, knock.”
After the knock, Ella came in with a cup of coffee. “Got your coffee, Boss!”
“Thanks,” Ophelia said, reaching out for the cup. She definitely needed that pick-me-up.
“Boss, what were you up to last night? You look like you pulled an all-nighter, Ella teased, eyeing Ophelia with a mischievous grin, clearly fishing for gossip.
Ophelia shot Ella a look and called her out. “Don’t be nosy. Seriously, I didn’t do anything. I just didn’t sleep well, okay?” ‘Come on, there’s gotta be a reason you look so wiped out,” Ella sneaked closer, lowering her voice with a wicked grin. “Spill it. Did you have a spicy dream last night? Don’t tell me it was about Alaric.”
Ophelia nearly spat her coffee right onto Ella, totally caught off guard.
Ella pulled a dramatic pout, looking all wounded. “Boss, even if I nailed it, you don’t have to do me dirty like this, right?” “Quit making stuff up. There’s nothing going on,” Ophelia shot Ella an annoyed glare. “Serves you right for gossiping!” “Whoa, hold up!” Ella looked at Ophelia like she’d just stumbled onto a major secret. “Don’t tell me I actually guessed right?” She’d just been messing around, but Boss’s reaction was way too sketchy. Something was definitely up.
“You are talking nonsense. Quit making wild guesses,” Ophelia shot back, her face looking a bit awkward.
She really hadn’t expected Ella’s nonsense to actually hit the bullseye.
Ella scooted closer to Ophelia, her grin full of mischief. “Whoa, you’re really freaking out. And just now you said I was talking nonsense. Normally you’d just say I’m making stuff up, but this time you called it nonsense. That means I must’ve nailed it, huh?”
‘Wait a sec, so “talking nonsense” actually mea ‘Oh my god, this is the hottest tea ever!’ Ella prova
WHERE da fare her eyes sparkling with glee.
