219 Chapter 219
219.Chapter 219
Ophelia had been so focused on patching him up earlier that she hadn’t paid attention, but now, standing this close, she could make out every little detail-the solid arms, the sculpted muscles, and even the texture of his skin right in front of her.
Her hands had just been all over him, and honestly, now that she thought about it, the feel of his skin under her fingers was surprisingly nice.
Alaric really did have the kind of looks that could get someone in trouble. Ophelia found herself thinking, ‘Maybe he wasn’t just being vain when he said going shirtless was dangerous. He might actually have a point!
Her cheeks went red all of a sudden, and Ophelia couldn’t help but avert her gaze, feeling totally flustered.
‘Ophelia, get a grip! What are you even thinking?’ she mentally kicked herself.
“Ophelia, if you want to stare, go right ahead. I really don’t mind,” Alaric said, sounding so casual it was almost cocky. “Since you’ve already copped a feel, what’s so scary about just looking?”
Ophelia choked on her own saliva, mortified. She shot him a glare and grumbled, “I did not! Don’t talk nonsense.”
“Nonsense, huh? Then why are you so flustered?” Alaric suddenly slipped his arm around her waist, pulling her close into his chest, his voice low and teasing. “Look at you, blushing.”
Ophelia was totally caught off guard by his move. When she finally came to her senses, she found herself staring right up at his ridiculously handsome face. If she leaned in even a little, her lips would practically brush against his cheek.
‘Thump, thump, thump…’ Ophelia could feel her heart racing in her chest.
She panicked for a split second, then came to her senses and quickly pushed Alaric away.
Once she steadied herself, Ophelia swallowed nervously and said, “Looks like you’re fine now. I’ve got stuff to do, so I’ll head out.”
With that, Ophelia turned and practically bolted out of the ER.
‘He’s seriously getting more dangerous by the minute. I really need to keep my distance, Ophelia thought to herself.
Watching her bolt out of the room, Alaric couldn’t help but let a pleased smile tug at his lips.
‘She still says she’s not shy? Yeah, right, he thought, amused.
“Mr. Caldwell, what happened?” Ryan walked in, looking confused. “I saw Ms. Rowle leaving. What’s up?”
‘She looked pretty pissed off…’ Ryan thought to himself.
“Nothing,” Alaric said, the amusement fading from his eyes as he slowly started buttoning up his shirt.
“How’s your injury?” Ryan asked, his eyes full of concern.
Alaric frowned, his voice a little lower. “I’m fine.”
‘It landed on me instead. If I hadn’t gotten there in time, Ophelia would’ve been in real trouble, Alaric thought, a wave of worry washing over him.
“It’s all taken care of,” Alaric said, his tone so calm it made the air feel icy.
Ryan nodded. “Yes, Mr. Caldwell. Don’t worry. Those guys already have a record, and after this, they’ll never see the light of day again.”
“Okay,” Alaric replied, his eyes darkening.
“Mr. Caldwell, should we dig into who’s pulling the strings behind the scenes?” Ryan asked, his face darkening. ‘Whoever’s behind this is seriously gutsy, he thought.
