223 Chapter 223
223.Chapter 223
“No,” Chloe replied, her gaze flickering to the empty milk glass. ‘She drank every last drop… so why is she totally fine?’ Chloe wondered.
Ophelia swirled the glass in her hand and said, “Chloe, are you curious why I drank the milk and nothing happened to me?” Chloe quickly averted her eyes and muttered, “Ophelia, you misunderstood. I’m just here to collect the glass.”
She didn’t know what was going on, but one thing was clear, admitting anything right now was absolutely out of the question.
“Two people to pick up one glass? And…” Ophelia gave the man a cold, piercing look. “I’ve never seen you before. Who are you?”
“He is just the new worker. I was showing him around the villa, and since we ended up here, I figured I’d grab the glass,” Chloe said stubbornly, making up an excuse.
Ophelia’s presence turned icy in a flash. “Chloe, who gave you the guts to bring a stranger into my room while I was sleeping, without my permission?”
“Ophelia, it’s all just a misunderstanding,” Chloe stammered, beads of sweat popping up on her forehead as she rushed to explain. “I was only showing him around. If you don’t want him here, I’ll send him away right now. I swear, we won’t hire him again.”
After saying that, Chloe shot the man a look, pretending to be annoyed. “You heard her, right? Ophelia doesn’t want to hire you. So get out, now.”
“Oh, right,” the man replied quickly, eager to get out of there as fast as he could.
Now that things had blown up, he knew he had to make a run for it before it was too late.
“Stop right there,” Ophelia barked, her voice icy and sharp. “Do you really think I’m that easy to fool?”
‘Seriously, they actually expect me to buy that crap?’ Ophelia thought, her eyes narrowing.
Chloe blurted out, her voice trembling, “Ophelia, this is all just a misunderstanding! See? We didn’t do anything, did we?”
As she spoke, Chloe reached for the glass in Ophelia’s hand. “I swear, I was only here to grab the glass. I know I shouldn’t have brought someone in without asking. It was stupid, and I promise I’ll never do it again.”
Ophelia let out a cold, mocking laugh. “Save it for the police. Let’s see if they buy your story.”
“No, I didn’t do anything! This has nothing to do with me!” the man panicked and tried to run for it.
Ophelia stepped forward in a flash, chopping the back of his neck with her hand. The guy’s knees buckled and he dropped to the floor.
“Ophelia, you…” Chloe swallowed hard, feeling a chill crawl down the back of her neck.
“Drop the act. I know everything,” Ophelia arched a brow, shooting Chloe a cold look. “Care to explain why you tried to set me up?”
“Ophelia, you really have it all wrong,” Chloe insisted, refusing to budge. She was determined not to admit anything.
Ophelia just shrugged, unfazed. “Fine, whatever. Let’s just wait for her to get back and see what she has to say.”
Chloe’s heart sank. ‘Does Ophelia really know everything?’ she thought, panic creeping in.
Even though Ophelia only said “her,” Chloe had no doubt in her mind. She meant Zoe, no question.
“Looks like it’s about time for school to let out. Let’s wait together,” Ophelia said, making Chloe feel like she was falling into a bottomless pit.
‘She really does know… but how?’ Chloe’s mind raced.
