Chapter 245
“Yeah, I didn’t get any sleep until dawn,” Ophelia replied, rubbing her temples. She hadn’t slept well and now had a headache.
Ella’s eyes sparkled with gossip. “Didn’t you go back to Rowle Manor yesterday? What happened? Why couldn’t you sleep?”
“Wait, don’t tell me your family’s nagging you about marriage again?” Ella teased, covering her mouth with a giggle, clearly enjoying the drama.
Ophelia rolled her eyes at her. ‘My insomnia was definitely Alaric’s fault, but there’s no way I’m telling Ella even a word about it, she thought.
“My uncles are back,” Ophelia said, her expression darkening as she mentioned Asher and Henry.
Seeing her face, Ella immediately caught on. “Judging by your look, they’re back to stir up trouble, aren’t they?”
Ophelia glanced down for a moment and asked Ella, “How are you pushing forward the deal with Rowle Group?”
“The early talks are pretty much done. I think we’re close,” Ella replied, raising an eyebrow. “Boss, you got a plan or something?”
Ophelia shook her head and reminded her, “Just remember, we only work with the main office on Rowle Group projects.”
As long as they kept things with HQ, Asher and Henry couldn’t mess with them.
‘Trying to steal the Maplewood Capital project? Please, their tricks are so obvious. Do they really think we’re idiots?’ Ophelia thought.
“Got it,” Ella replied, then grinned, “Once we got involved with Mr. Kingston’s project, it was basically ours. Now that he’s barely keeping himself afloat, there’s no way he can bail out the Vossen family.”
“Mm,” Ophelia hummed, figuring the timing was just about right.
Ella leaned in and whispered, “Do you think Cameron will try to get back at you once he finds out?”
“If he can,” Ophelia replied, her eyes flashing with a cold glint.
“Honestly, he’s ruthless,” Ella said, curling her lip in disgust. “When he couldn’t get you to help, he even hired someone to go after you. I used to think he was actually sorry for what he’d done.”
“He’s an incredibly selfish piece of work. When it comes to his own interests, he’ll toss his pride aside without a second thought. I’d sooner believe pigs could fly than trust him to ever change,” Ophelia said, her voice sharp as a blade.
She knew exactly what kind of person Cameron was.
She was certain that even if she gave in and helped him this time, Cameron wouldn’t feel a shred of gratitude or be satisfied. He’d just keep squeezing her for everything she’s got.
‘I’m not some fool, no way I’m letting myself get used like that, Ophelia thought.
“Alright, if there’s nothing else, go handle your stuff,” Ophelia said, her expression cooling as she dismissed Ella.
“Sure thing,” Ella replied, heading out.
Ophelia glanced up and her eyes landed on a bottle of ointment.
It was the one Alaric had brought over yesterday. The moment she saw it, her mind couldn’t help but wander to his ridiculously good physique.
Her cheeks flushed, and feeling a bit flustered, she quickly tossed the ointment into the trash, muttering, “Such
a shame to waste a body like that. Too bad he’s just a sly big bad wolf.”
She wasn’t trying to think about him, but anything related to him made her brain go there.
‘Yeah, that’s definitely it, she told herself.

‘Who in their right mind would waste time thinking about that man?’ Ophelia snarked to herself.
