Chapter 246

Chapter 246

Ophelia gritted her teeth inwardly. ‘Gee, take a wild guess, Mr. Caldwell, she thought.

Of course, he was just standing there like nothing ever happened, totally unfazed.

“If you’ve got something to say, just spit it out. If not, I’m leaving,” Ophelia said, clearly annoyed, and started heading for her car.

But Alaric reached out and caught her arm, leaning in with a gentle voice. “There’s an event tonight. Why don’t you be my plus one?”

“What kind of event?” Ophelia bit her lip, thinking, ‘Does he seriously need me to tag along?’

“It’s a business dinner. Pretty much everyone in Dunhollow’s industry got an invite. Didn’t you get one, Ms. Rowle?” Alaric raised an eyebrow, his gaze lingering with a hint of mischief.

“Of course I did, but why do I have to go with you?” Ophelia retorted. ‘Why can’t I just go solo?’ she thought.

Alaric smirked, drawling, “Rowle Group got an invite too.”

He didn’t need to say more, Ophelia got the message loud and clear.

If she wanted to go, she’d need a legit reason to show up. Either as Rowan Draven, or as his plus one.

Going as Rowan Draven wouldn’t be a big deal, but if Oliver was going too…

Ophelia gritted her teeth and shot him a resentful glare. “Mr. Caldwell, you really put a lot of thought into this.”

‘Figures. He totally set this up so I’d have no choice but to go with him, Ophelia thought, not amused at all.

“Glad you caught on, Ophelia,” Alaric said, acting all proud, like he didn’t even notice the sarcasm dripping from her words.

Ophelia rolled her eyes at him, yanked open the car door, and slid inside, tossing over her shoulder, “Well? Are you getting in or not?”

“Let’s go,” Alaric said with a grin, hopping in and telling the driver to hit the road.

On the way, Ophelia texted Ella: [Ella, you’ll be Maplewood Capital’s rep at the dinner tonight.]

[What about you, Boss?] Ella texted back, puzzled.

[I’ll be there too, just not as Rowan Draven,] Ophelia replied, then tucked her phone away.

She didn’t need to explain further, Ella would totally get it.

Alaric’s car pulled up in front of the Golden Emperor Hotel.

The driver opened the doors for them, and they stepped out one after another.

Alaric was dressed in a sharp black bespoke suit, looking every bit the prince, elegant and refined. Ophelia, meanwhile, wore a white floor-length evening gown that showed off her figure perfectly.

Her makeup-free face was ethereal, almost otherworldly, and she drew every eye in the room.

Standing side by side, one in black, the other in white, they were a striking pair, each complementing the other, as if they were made for each other.

With all eyes on them, Alaric took Ophelia’s hand and walked her into the venue like they owned the place.

Behind them, someone was shooting daggers with a gaze so cold and hateful, it could freeze the air.

Zoe stared holes into Ophelia’s back, her eyes so red with rage it looked like they might actually bleed.

‘So Ophelia really did latch onto Alaric, huh? Now she gets to parade around with him like she owns the place; Zoe fumed, jealousy eating her alive.

“Zoe, what are you staring at?” Oliver’s voice came from beside her, cool and icy.

“Nothing. Let’s head inside,” Zoe said, dropping her gaze and acting all sweet and innocent, like she hadn’t just
