Chapter 247

Chapter 247

Ophelia could show up with Alaric whenever she wanted, but Zoe had to come up with some excuse just to get

She told Victoria she wanted to use the party as a chance to meet new people and didn’t want everyone to keep assuming she and Alaric were engaged.

Victoria only agreed to mention it to Oliver after hearing that, otherwise, Oliver wouldn’t have let her come at all.

Zoe knew that saying this basically meant she was admitting she’d given up on Alaric, at least in the eyes of the Rowle family. It was the only way they’d finally let their guard down around her.

Everyone always took Ophelia’s side, and everything Zoe had done over the years to fit in suddenly seemed like a bad joke.

Once they entered the venue, Zoe acted all sweet and innocent, sticking close to Oliver, but secretly, she kept a close eye on Ophelia the whole time.

The more she watched, the more it felt like a slap in the face, her eyes burned, and it was like someone was twisting a knife in her chest.

Alaric moved through the crowd with Ophelia by his side, chatting with everyone, but he was so attentive and protective of her. Zoe had never seen Alaric act so gentle and caring before.

“Why are you just standing here gawking?” Felicity’s familiar voice rang out beside her.

Zoe spun around, eyes wide with surprise. “Felicity, when did you get back?”

“This afternoon,” Felicity said, then looked over at Ophelia. “Is that Ophelia?”

“Yeah, that’s her,” Zoe replied with a smile. “Should I call her over and introduce you?”

“Don’t bother,” Felicity said, her eyes narrowing. “We’ll run into each other soon enough.”

“Alright then,” Zoe agreed sweetly, not discouraged at all.

Felicity stared at Zoe for a moment before sighing. “I honestly don’t know why you’re still smiling.”

“What else can I do?” Zoe shrugged helplessly. “We can’t force fate.”

“No wonder Daphne says you’re too naive,” Felicity said, shaking her head with a sigh, a hint of pity in her voice.

Zoe just smiled in response, saying nothing more.

Felicity glanced at Zoe, her eyes carrying a hint of superiority. ‘No wonder Daphne always says she’s useless, Felicity thought to herself.

Ophelia kept trying to find a way to get away from Alaric so she could meet up with Ella.

She wasn’t here as Rowan, but she’d already spotted Ella getting surrounded by a bunch of people, looking totally lost and not sure what to do.

Noticing she was distracted, Alaric leaned in and whispered in her ear, “Something on your mind?”

“I want to check on Ella,” Ophelia said softly, not even trying to hide it.

Alaric glanced at Oliver for a second before asking, “Is that alright?”

Ophelia got what he meant and shook her head. “No worries. Since I’m here as your date, people will just think you’re trying to get Ella on your side.”

Seeing the mischievous sparkle in her eyes, Alaric gave her a fond smile. “Alright.”

Ophelia was about to walk away when Alaric called after her, “Remember, you’re not my date, you’re my fiancée.”
