Chapter 255

Chapter 255

The next morning, the sun was out in full force.

Ophelia had just stepped into her office at New City Tower when she heard Ella running through the morning updates

“Wait, you’re telling me we have a meeting at the Caldwell Group today?” Ophelia shot Ella a suspicious look. Did you do this on purpose?”

“Huh?” Ella blinked, looking genuinely confused. “What’s wrong?”

Why does Boss seem kind of upset?’ Ella wondered.

“Why do we have to go to the Caldwell Group for the meeting?” Ophelia’s frown deepened. She couldn’t help but suspect Ella had set this up on purpose.

“Oh, Ryan told me last night. I figured it was just work, so I agreed, Ella explained, tilting her head and giving Ophelia a playful look. “Boss, are you nervous about seeing Mr. Caldwell?”

Why does Ophelia look so reluctant?’ Ella wondered.

Suddenly, it hit her. Ella’s eyes went wide in shock. “Wait, did something happen between you and Mr. Caldwell yesterday?”

‘Oh my god, did I just stumble onto something huge?’ Ella thought, practically buzzing with excitement.

Ophelia shot her a withering look, and Ella immediately flashed an awkward grin. “Hey, I’m just guessing here! No need to freak out. You never tell me anything anyway,” Ella said.

‘If she keeps everything to herself, what else can I do but keep guessing?’ Ella thought.

Ophelia sighed, feeling a bit helpless, and just gave Ella the gist of what happened yesterday.

Ella’s eyes lit up as she looked at Ophelia, practically bouncing with excitement. “Wait, so Mr. Caldwell was worried your shoes were uncomfortable, so he whisked you away and even bought you a new pair?”

Ella clasped her hands and pressed them to her cheek, looking totally starstruck. “Seriously, what kind of boyfriend goals is that? He left everyone at the party just because he was worried about you.”

Ophelia gave her a cool, dismissive shake of the head. “Maybe you need to work overtime to snap out of it. Stop daydreaming all the time.”

‘Honestly, what is she even thinking?’ Ophelia wondered.

“Are you seriously allergic to romance or something, Boss? Mr. Caldwell really has it tough with you,” Ella said, shaking her head and looking genuinely sorry for him. She just couldn’t understand how Ophelia could be so

chill about all this.

Ophelia gave her a look that said a thousand things, a faint, knowing smile tugging at her lips. Ella felt her scalp tingle and instantly shrank back, mumbling nervously, “Boss, are you still going to the meeting?”

That look from Ophelia always freaked Ella out. If she didn’t rein herself in, she knew she’d be doomed.

Ophelia shot her a look, sounding resigned. “Since it’s already scheduled, let’s just go. Just bring all the files with you”

“Got it!” Ella breathed a sigh of relief and rushed out to get the files ready.

Twenty minutes later, Ophelia and Ella left the office, heading for the Caldwell Group.

But as soon as they stepped outside, a shadowy figure came rushing straight at Ophelia.

The person had a hat pulled low, hiding their face, but Ophelia instantly caught sight of the gleaming dagger in their hand.

Ophelia’s eyes narrowed, a cold glint flickering in her gaze.

She didn’t even hesitate, her foot shot out, sending the dagger flying, and in the next second, she locked their wrist in a tight grip.
