Chapter 262

Chapter 262

But… she couldn’t shake the feeling that something wasn’t right.

“Ophelia, what do you want to eat?” Alaric turned back to her, his voice soft and gentle.

“Let’s just hit the fast food place downstairs,” Ophelia said, half-heartedly, pursing her lips. “And after lunch, you should probably head back to the Caldwell Group, right?”

“I’m off today, so I’m planning to stick with you all day,” Alaric replied, grinning like it was the most natural thing in the world.

Ophelia couldn’t help but roll her eyes. “Seriously, I don’t need you hovering around me.”

Chatting as they went, the two of them reached the lobby.

Just as they stepped out of New City Tower, Cameron came barreling toward them, his face thunderous with

anger.

“Ophelia, how could you be so cold? Layla didn’t do anything, why’d you have to call the cops on her?” Cameron stormed over, eyes blazing with fury.

“Did you lose your brain along with Layla when they took her away? If she was innocent, why would the cops arrest her?” Ophelia snapped back, her tone dripping with sarcasm.

Cameron glanced away, then snapped back, “If you hadn’t pushed her to the edge, she wouldn’t have done it!”

“Me? I’m the one who drove her to desperation?” Ophelia scoffed, her laughter cold and mocking. “Are you kidding? Layla’s got plenty of tricks up her sleeve, and she’s willing to pay any price.”

‘Layla actually hooked up with Mr. Kingston and still has the nerve to feel proud about it. Honestly, she’s hardcore, even when it comes to herself, she doesn’t pull any punches, Ophelia thought, her eyes flashing with disdain.

Cameron’s face turned stormy, his jaw clenched. “She’s already ended up like this, how can you still mock her?”

“Like what?” Ophelia sneered, arching an eyebrow at Cameron. “If I didn’t know how to protect myself, I’d be the one in danger today.”

‘Layla?’ Ophelia scoffed to herself.

‘She did this to herself, she thought, her gaze icy.

Cameron was left speechless, huffing and puffing as he glared daggers at Ophelia. After struggling for a while, he finally spat out, “I don’t care! It’s all your fault she’s like this, so you have to make it up to me!”

Ophelia froze on the spot, stunned. ‘Did I seriously just hear that? Is he for real right now?’ she thought.

But then she snorted to herself, mocking. ‘Of course I heard him right. Classic Cameron. That’s him to a T,’ she thought, her eyes cold and unimpressed.

When it came to personal gain, everything else took a back seat for him. Cameron was always the type to put his own interests above all else.

Ophelia had thought maybe he’d come to her out of some sudden fatherly concern for his daughter, but in the end, it was all about what he could get out of it.

“Figures. Why would I ever expect anything different from you?” Ophelia shook her head with a wry smile. ‘ Cameron’s never changed; she thought, feeling nothing but disappointment.

“So you’re not going to make it up to me, huh?” Cameron snarled, his tone full of threat. “If you won’t cooperate, don’t blame me for what I do next.”

Ophelia raised an eyebrow, her gaze icy. “Go on, then. What are you planning to use against me this time?” Cameron let out a smug snort. “I’ve called every reporter in Dunhollow here. Just wait, I’m about to expose you for what you really are: ungrateful and ruthless, turning on the family that raised you and trying to wipe them

out.”
