Chapter 264

Chapter 264

Ophelia’s lips curled into a faint smile. “Thanks for today.”

“No need to thank me. Even without me, you could’ve handled it just fine,” Alaric replied, a hint of a smile tugging at his lips.

‘This girl never lets herself get pushed around, she’s got a sharp temper and even sharper skills, he thought, a touch of pride in his eyes.

“Still, you helped me out,” Ophelia said, pausing for a moment before adding, “Let me treat you to dinner later. Consider it my way of saying thanks.”

Alaric raised an eyebrow, his gaze full of meaning. “If you really want to thank me, I think I prefer the way you did it just now.”

“Earlier…” Ophelia froze for a second, then it hit her. Her cheeks instantly flushed bright red.

She shoved Alaric’s head away hard, muttering through gritted teeth, “Just shut up and quit talking nonsense. That was an accident, not me thanking you.”

“An accident, huh?” Alaric brushed his lips with his thumb, a wicked grin still lingering. “Well, if that’s how it is, I wouldn’t mind a few more ‘accidents’ like that.”

“Like I’d ever want that to happen with you! Just zip it,” Ophelia snapped, her cheeks turning even redder as she avoided his gaze.

“I’d love that,” Alaric said, his eyes twinkling with mischief and pure adoration.

Ophelia shot him a look, half annoyed, half helpless. ‘Can you please not say stuff like that?’ she thought, her glare more playful than angry.

Alaric chuckled softly, totally amused. ‘Messing with her is just too entertaining; he thought, a smirk playing on his lips.

Dusk settled in, and the city lit up with a warm glow as the whole Rowle family sat down together for dinner.

“Ophelia, I brought your certificate back,” Zoe said, her gaze steady and composed, gone was the delicate, obedient girl from before.

Ophelia arched a brow, picking up on the shift in Zoe’s demeanor. ‘Looks like she’s changed quite a bit,’ she thought.

“Thanks,” Ophelia replied, her tone cool and unbothered. She was sure of her win, so there was no need to dwell on it.

“Ophelia, you haven’t been going to school lately. Are you skipping the award ceremony too?” Zoe asked, her brows furrowing, a hint of annoyance in her voice.

She’d been disqualified from the competition, and now she had to deliver Ophelia’s certificate herself. This is just plain humiliating, Zoe thought, bitterness rising in her chest.

Victoria hesitated for a moment, then turned to Ophelia. “Ophelia, is it really okay for you to keep skipping school like this?”

“Don’t worry, Mom. I worked it out with Mr. Blackwell ages ago, it’s all taken care of,” Ophelia said, flashing her a reassuring smile, knowing Victoria was just looking out for her.

“Ophelia, you’re seriously awesome,” Owen said, looking all smug and proud. “But what about the monthly exams? You even planning to show up for those?”

“Monthly exams?” Ophelia shot a look at Zoe.

Zoe instantly tensed up, her expression complicated, a jumble of nerves and mixed feelings.

She already knew just how strong Ophelia was. Honestly, she could already guess how the monthly exams would turn out, and she was pretty sure she didn’t stand a chance against her.

Chapter 264

She was starting to seriously regret ever making that bet with Ophelia. She didn’t really care about the stakes, but what really bothered her was the thought of losing face again, especially if it was to Ophelia.

“Oh, I’ve been pretty busy lately, so I’m not taking the exams,” Ophelia said, sounding completely calm and unconcerned.

Yeah, the monthly exams were right around the corner, but she had zero interest in showing up.
