Chapter 266

Cameron shot Carter a glare, his voice cold. “Why are you worrying about that? You have no sense of priorities.”

He had more pressing matters to handle right now.

“How is that not important? If this keeps dragging on, by the time I get back, no one will care anymore,” Carter grumbled, clearly unwilling to let it go.

“You never had much of a fanbase to begin with, so it won’t change anything,” Cameron said, already getting up and heading out. “I’ve got things to do. Just go get some rest.”

Watching Cameron just walk off like that, Carter was seriously frustrated. ‘Why does he always act like my problems don’t matter at all?’ he muttered under his breath.

‘Whatever, if you won’t help me, I’ll handle it myself; Carter huffed, stubbornness flashing in his eyes.

The next day rolled around in a flash.

Ophelia walked into the office early, and when she saw her schedule, her face instantly darkened.

“You take the team to Caldwell Group. I’m not going,” Ophelia said, her tone icy and flat.

She’d just made up her mind last night to keep her distance from Alaric, and now this schedule was like the universe was trolling her.

Ella blinked in confusion. “Why not?”

They were supposed to go yesterday, but an accident changed the plan. Now, suddenly, Ophelia was saying she wasn’t going at all.

Ella scratched her head, completely confused.

When they left yesterday, she hadn’t noticed anything strange between Ophelia and Mr. Caldwell.

‘Did I miss out on some drama or gossip?’ Ella wondered.

‘Maybe something went down after work? Did they hang out and end up having a falling out or something?’ Ella wondered.

Her mind instantly cooked up a whole scene of a couple bickering over some silly drama.

“No reason. I’ve got other stuff to do,” Ophelia said, barely glancing at the files on her desk. “Go on, get going.”

“Oh, sure,” Ella said, slipping out of the office.

“Looks like things got awkward between her and Mr. Caldwell,” Ella mumbled, shaking her head as she left, her mind already spinning with gossip.

‘No way I’m getting any answers out of her here. Maybe I’ll get lucky and overhear something juicy at Caldwell Group, Ella thought, her curiosity in overdrive as she headed out.

Once Ella was gone, Ophelia rubbed her aching temples.

‘Maybe I should just find her a husband so she’ll stop poking her nose into my business every day,’ Ophelia thought, half amused, half annoyed.

At least it was finally quiet. Ophelia let out a sigh of relief and picked up the files on her desk.

Just then, her secretary poked her head in. “Ophelia, there’s a guy out here who says he’s your third brother. He wants to see you.”

“Miles?” Ophelia blinked in surprise. “Wasn’t he supposed to be buried in his research? Why’s he suddenly

back?”

And instead of heading home, he came straight to my office.

‘Wait, how did he even know I was here?’ Ophelia wondered.

Pretty sure no one at home even knows I’m here, she thought a little baffled.
