Ophelia Gets Thrown Out (Ophelia) novel Chapter 267

Chapter 267

Chapter 267

“Ophelia, we’ve lived together for years, practically grew up side by side. Just because you’re not a Vossen by blood doesn’t mean we have to act like strangers,” Carter said, his tone dripping with flattery.

“I’m not just here to see you, I’m also here to apologize for Layla. She really screwed up this time. But you’ve already dealt with her, so why keep holding a grudge? It’s not worth making yourself miserable over it,” he continued.

Ophelia’s gaze turned cold for a split second, her voice icy. “Cut the crap and just say what you want.”

The Vossens were all about themselves. Ophelia knew Carter couldn’t care less about Layla. Him coming here to apologize? Yeah, he was definitely up to something.

Carter gave an awkward laugh. “It’s really nothing big. I just want you to refer me to a company, help me get my foot in the door somewhere.”

“Looking for a job?” Ophelia tilted her head, sizing him up. ‘What’s he scheming now?’ she wondered.

‘Is he finally giving up on his celebrity pipe dreams now that the Vossen family’s fallen apart, and actually trying to make a living like the rest of us?’ Ophelia thought, a hint of disbelief flickering in her eyes.

‘This all feels a bit surreal,’ Ophelia mused.

“No, not a job,” Carter said quickly, waving his hands. “I mean, can you hook me up with a talent agency? Once I sign with one, trust me, with my skills, I’ll be a superstar soon. Then you’ll be the first person I thank.”

‘It’s right as I expected, Ophelia sighed inwardly.

Ophelia gave Carter a cold stare. ‘Still chasing that impossible dream after all these years, huh?’ she thought.

“I can’t help you,” Ophelia said, clearly uninterested as she lowered her gaze. “Honestly, you’ve got no real talent. Quit dreaming already.”

After all these years, he was still practically invisible. ‘How can he even pretend he’s got what it takes?’ Ophelia thought, rolling her eyes.

His eager-to-please smile almost fell apart, and Carter blurted out, grumbling, “How can you say that? If you hadn’t made Mr. Lawson shut down the entertainment company, I’d be a superstar by now.”

Ophelia arched a brow and shot Carter a sarcastic glance. “Even if the Lawson Group hadn’t closed the entertainment company, you’d still be just another nobody in the background.”

‘Where does he get that kind of confidence?’ Ophelia thought, rolling her eyes. ‘What makes him think he could ever be famous, with his total lack of talent?’

“Ophelia Vossen, seriously, you’re way out of line!” Carter almost lost it, unable to handle Ophelia’s blunt takedown.

“It’s Ophelia Rowle,” she replied, giving an innocent shrug. “I’m just being honest.”

“You!” Carter glared at Ophelia, biting back his anger. After a moment, his voice edged with annoyance. Alright, let’s make a deal instead.”

‘So much for pulling the emotional card, Carter thought.

‘Guess I’ll have to switch tactics,’ he mused.

“A deal?” Ophelia looked up at him, her gaze icy and giving nothing away.

For a moment, Carter couldn’t tell if Ophelia was intrigued or just didn’t care at all.

Carter hesitated, then took a deep breath and tried again, testing the waters. “It’s about my dad. Trust me, this is something you’ll want to hear.”

Ophelia snorted, her voice thick with sarcasm. “So you’re really gonna sell out your own father just to chase some pipe dream?”

‘Typical Vossen, Ophelia thought. ‘Cold-b’orded runs in their veins.

Carter stiffened his neck, then muttered under his breath, “Once I’m famous, there’s nothing I can’t handle for

him.”

Since his dad clearly didn’t give a damn, Carter figured he’d just have to look out for himself.

After racking his brain, Carter knew Ophelia was his only hope. He really had no other option.

‘Once I hit it big, all my problems will sort themselves out. Helping the Vossen Group? Easy, Carter thought, his mind spinning with wild ideas.

‘My dad’s out of his mind, Carter thought, annoyed. ‘He keeps acting like my problems don’t matter. How is any of this small?’

“Enough. I don’t want to hear any more of your fancy excuses. This has nothing to do with me. For the last time, I’m not helping you, just get out,” Ophelia said, her patience finally gone. She was done with his nonsense.
