Chapter 268
‘Selfish and cold-blooded, and he still tries to make himself sound all noble, Ophelia thought, rolling her eyes. “Ophelia, just hear me out! What I know could really matter to you, it’s about your safety. Are you seriously not even gonna consider trading with me?” Carter blurted, his voice rising as he realized Ophelia was really shutting him down.
Ophelia raised an eyebrow, giving Carter a chilly side-eye. “Instead of pestering me, why don’t you go home and talk to your dad yourself? You have had it good for way too long, are you all dying to find out what jail food tastes like?”
‘Honestly, they just never stop. They’re seriously getting on my nerves,’ Ophelia thought, exasperated.
She didn’t owe any of them a damn thing. She’d already gone above and beyond for them.
Carter’s expression froze as he stared at Ophelia, a jolt of anxiety tightening his chest.
He realized he’d never really looked her in the eye before. Only now did he see how powerful her presence was, those cold eyes felt like they could pierce straight through him. ‘Damn, she’s scary, Carter thought, a chill creeping down his spine.
For a moment, Carter was torn, should he leave or stay?
If he walked away now, he’d regret it. He just couldn’t let it go.
But if he stayed? He was honestly kind of freaked out. Her stare was crushing him; he wasn’t sure he could handle the pressure.
Ophelia pressed the intercom button, her voice cold and dismissive. “Get him out of here.”
Her secretary came in almost immediately, giving Carter a polite but unmistakably firm look. “This way, please.”
“Ophelia, come on! Don’t shut me out! Listen, I’ve got info for you, and I can even spy on them, dig up whatever plans they’ve got!” Carter pleaded, clutching at his last lifeline.
Ophelia shot him a cold, piercing look, and Carter instantly shut up.
Her eyes were so icy, it felt like they could freeze him solid.
Suddenly, Carter didn’t dare say another word.
He had no doubt, if he kept pushing, he’d be in for a world of trouble.
For a moment, Carter was shaken, was this the real Ophelia? The side of her nobody ever got to see? Ophelia’s voice rang out, cold and authoritative. “He’s not family to me. Let the front desk know, if he ever shows up again, call the police immediately.”
She had zero interest in wasting any more energy on them. Might as well cut them off for good.
The secretary nodded respectfully. “Yes, Ms. Draven.”
She shot Carter another look, her tone even sharper. “Hurry up and get out. Don’t disturb Ms. Draven’s work.” ‘What a joke, trying to pass himself off as family. Disgusting, the secretary thought.
Carter shot Ophelia a look, his face darkening. He dragged his feet as he left, glancing back at her again and again.
He never expected Ophelia wouldn’t even flinch at his words.
‘Is she really not scared at all, or does she just know she can handle whatever’s coming?’ Carter wondered, feeling a chill run down his spine.
And as for himself? He was totally lost. ‘What am I supposed to do now?’ he thought, panic rising in his chest. Ophelia leaned back in her chair, her eyes dark and unreadable.
‘Cameron still isn’t giving up? Does he seriously think I’ll keep letting him slide?’ Ophelia thought, her jaw tightening.
