Chapter 269

Chapter 269

“Uh, I was just passing by and got hungry, so I came in to grab a bite,” Ophelia said, tossing out a casual excuse. Then she turned to Declan and asked, “What about you, Declan?”

Ophelia couldn’t help but wonder why Declan was hanging around here. ‘Wasn’t he supposed to be at school?’

“Oh, my grandpa asked me to take care of a few things for him. I just finished up and figured I’d find somewhere to eat,” Declan replied.

He hadn’t expected to bump into her, and for a split second, he couldn’t help but feel a little happy about it.

“I see,” Ophelia said, a faint smile tugging at her lips as she gave a slight nod.

“Is it okay if I sit with you?” Declan asked, a little hesitant.

Ophelia nodded. “Of course, have a seat.”

‘It’s just dinner, nothing special, Ophelia told herself.

Declan flashed a cheerful smile and gestured to the waiter. “I’ll have whatever she’s having.”

“Sure thing, sir,” the waiter replied.

After a short wait, their food was served, and the two of them chatted over their meal.

“Ophelia, you haven’t been coming to school lately. Got something going on?” Declan asked, trying to sound casual.

Honestly, he wasn’t sure why, but school just felt dull without her around.

“Yeah,” Ophelia replied, her voice steady, not giving anything away.

Declan felt a pang of disappointment. It felt like she was shutting him out, keeping her life a mystery.

“Declan,” came a voice, and someone suddenly showed up at their table.

Both of them looked up to see Felicity. Declan gave her a slight nod. “Yeah.”

Felicity frowned a little, then turned to Ophelia, acting like she’d only just noticed her. “Oh, Ophelia, you’re here

too.”

“What do you want?” Ophelia replied, her voice cold, clearly not interested in chatting.

‘Playing it cool? Like I can’t do that too, Ophelia thought.

‘Like she didn’t see me the whole time, and now she’s pretending to be surprised? What a joke, Ophelia thought.

With both of them giving her the cold shoulder, Felicity could barely keep her smile from slipping.

Gritting her teeth, Felicity put on a fake cheerful face. “Wow, what a coincidence running into you two! Why are you guys eating here?”

But deep down, Felicity still despised Ophelia.

‘So the rumors at school were true. Ophelia is definitely after Declan, Felicity thought.

‘Wow, she’s really something, getting all cozy with Alaric and still stringing Declan along, Felicity thought, her mind dripping with sarcasm.

“I was just hungry and ran into him,” Ophelia said, her tone icy as she glanced at Felicity. “If you’ve got something to say, spit it out. Otherwise, don’t bother us while we’re eating.”

Felicity’s smile faltered. “I’m here to eat too. Mind if I join you?”

“Suit yourself,” Ophelia replied, not even bothering to look up.

‘Not my table, anyone can sit if they want, Ophelia thought.

“Guess I’ll join you then,” Felicity said, putting on her brightest smile as she shot Declan a look. “Declan, how come you weren’t at school today?”

“Had some stuff to deal with,” Declan replied, keeping it polite.

Felicity was hoping he’d ask about her, but Declan just left it at that and didn’t say another word.
