Chapter 270
Chapter 270
He was starting to understand, the strange feeling in his chest was actually a pang of bitterness.
“Declan, I heard Mr. Blackwell is still in the hospital, so I was thinking about visiting him,” Felicity said, forcing a hopeful smile as she bit her lip and looked at him expectantly. “Would you come with me?”
This time, she’d won another major award at an international competition. If Mr. Blackwell found out, he’d definitely be happy, and maybe she could leave a good impression on him.
“My grandpa doesn’t like being disturbed,” Declan replied coolly, his gaze dropping.
“But… why does she get to, ” Felicity almost blurted out, but bit her tongue at the last second.
‘Seriously? Ophelia gets a free pass, but I’m not allowed?’ Felicity grumbled to herself, jealousy simmering. But she knew better than to say that out loud. If she pushed Declan now, he’d just get even more fed up with her.
She’d always made sure to be the sweet, considerate girl around Declan. No way she was going to blow her cover just because she lost her cool for a second.
After a brief, awkward pause, Felicity lowered her voice, trying to sound gentle. “I just meant… is Mr. Blackwell feeling any better?”
“He’s doing fine,” Declan replied, shooting a glance at Ophelia. He hadn’t realized until later that it was all thanks to her.
“I’m done. You guys enjoy your meal,” Ophelia said, already getting up to leave.
“Wait,” Declan blurted out before he could stop himself.
Ophelia turned to him and asked quietly, “Is there something you want, Declan?”
Declan avoided her gaze for a moment before saying, “Oh, I’m done too. Let’s head out together.”
“But my lunch just got here,” Felicity blurted out, completely caught off guard. ‘Wait, they’re both leaving already?’ she thought, stunned.
‘So what’s the point of all my effort?’ Felicity thought bitterly.
“Then take your time. I’ve got things to do, so I’m heading out,” Ophelia said, giving Declan a quick nod. ” Declan, I’m heading out.”
She didn’t care if he stayed or left. It’s not like he could come with her anyway, she had work to get back to.
Seeing Ophelia get up to leave, Declan stood up too.
Even though he knew they’d be going their separate ways once they left the restaurant, he found himself wanting to walk out with her all the same.
A flash of malice flickered in Felicity’s eyes as she clenched her jaw and let out a cold snicker.
‘So you’re really just going to walk out on me? Way to humiliate me, Felicity fumed inwardly.
‘Fine, leave then. Let’s see who ends up looking ridiculous,’ she thought with a sneer.
Felicity secretly slid her foot out toward Ophelia, hoping to catch her off guard and watch her take a tumble in front of everyone.
“Ouch!” Instead, Ophelia stepped right down on her foot, making Felicity yelp, her face twisting in agony. “What happened?” Declan immediately turned to Ophelia, concern in his voice. “Are you alright?” Felicity’s expression was practically warped with pain. ‘Walt, I’m the one hurting here, shouldn’t someone be asking about me?’ she fumed.
“Ophelia, how could you step on me?” Felicity cried out, putting on her most pitiful expression. “I know you thought I was behind what happened to you last time, but I already apologized.
“Why are you still holding it against me and taking it out on me like this?”
