Chapter 274

Chapter 274

Ophelia stood by the door, gave Alaric a look and nodded toward the car, signaling him to get in.

‘Weren’t you the one who said you’d listen to me?’ she thought.

‘Then hurry up and get in,’ she added silently.

Seeing her practically shooing him away, Alaric couldn’t help but smile. ‘Looks like I’ve ruffled her feathers again, he thought.

“Alright, I’m leaving, little Ophelia,” Alaric said, not teasing her anymore as he got into the car.

Thud.

Ophelia shut the car door, flashed her classic work smile, and waved at Alaric. “Drive safe, Mr. Caldwell.”

Seeing her pull out that flawless fake office smile, Alaric’s eyes overflowed with adoration, his heart just turned to mush for her.

‘This girl is just too addictive, he thought, suddenly wishing he didn’t have to leave.

But he had a meeting scheduled for the afternoon, so he couldn’t stick around.

“Let’s go,” Alaric instructed the driver.

“Yes, sir,” the driver responded immediately, starting the car.

As Alaric’s car disappeared down the road, the smile that had just curled on Ophelia’s lips faded away.

“Hey Boss, what are you still looking at?” Ella popped up out of nowhere, grinning wickedly at Ophelia. “Mr. Caldwell’s long gone, you know.”

Ophelia shot her a look of pure annoyance. “What are you doing back here? I figured you’d be stuck at Caldwell Group for the rest of the day.”

“Come on, Boss! You know I’m your number one minion,” Ella said with a goofy grin, so silly that Ophelia couldn’t even bring herself to give her a hard time.

“So you do realize you’re always siding with outsiders, huh?” Ophelia complained as she walked back toward

the office.

Ella put her right hand up like she was taking an oath. “No way, Boss! I’m totally on your side, I swear!”

“Then why did Mr. Caldwell show up? Don’t act like you didn’t tell him I was here,” Ophelia shot back, calling Ella out.

She’d told Ella she had things to deal with, but she knew Ella saw right through her, she was just trying to avoid going to Caldwell Group.

And sure enough, Ella went straight to Alaric and told him everything, then still pretended she wasn’t siding with outsiders. ‘Seriously, who’s side are you on?’ Ophelia thought, exasperated.

“Hey, I didn’t have a choice! Mr. Caldwell said the project from Evergreen Construction is ours, we can sign the contract right away,” Ella said, giving Ophelia a playful punch on the shoulder. “As the vice president, how could I possibly turn that down?”

Ophelia couldn’t help but laugh, half exasperated. “Why are you trying so hard just because you’re the VP? Seriously, chill out.”

“You put the whole company in my hands, Boss, so of course I’m giving it everything I’ve got,” Ella said, chin held high in pride.

Ophelia couldn’t help but tease her. “So you’re planning to work your boss to the bone too, huh?”

Ella grinned, trying to change the subject. “Boss, I’ve got the Evergreen Construction contract right here. Want to check it out?”

Ophelia shot her a look. ‘Like I have a choice? What else can do at this point?’ she thought, resigned.
