Chapter 279
Chapter 279
‘Zoe’s really become a total lackey for the uncles. Even now, she’d rather swallow her pride than let Felicity lose face, Ophelia thought.
Ophelia shot Zoe a disdainful glance, then looked away without a word.
Being completely ignored, Zoe’s face darkened even more.
‘Just you wait, Ophelia. Let’s see how long you can keep acting all high and mighty, Zoe fumed inwardly.
“Hey, who’s that?” someone asked, puzzled. Everyone turned to look.
“He does look unfamiliar. Probably not from Dunhollow,” another person chimed in.
“But he’s actually pretty good-looking,” someone else remarked.
Ophelia’s eyes widened a bit when she saw who it was. ‘Why is it him?’ she thought, surprise flickering across her face.
But she quickly averted her gaze, choosing not to pay him any more attention.
‘He must’ve gotten an invite to the Rowle Group’s party. Bet he’s here to see Dad or maybe Oliver, Ophelia mused.
But to her surprise, he walked right up to her in front of everyone, a smile in his eyes. “Ms. Rowle, long time no
see.”
“Mr. Brown,” Ophelia replied with a polite, faint smile.
“Ophelia, do you know him?” Victoria asked, a hint of confusion in her voice as she leaned in to whisper.
‘He really does look unfamiliar. He’s probably not from Dunhollow. How does he know Ophelia, and they seem pretty close, Victoria wondered.
Ophelia nodded coolly and told Victoria, “We’ve crossed paths once.”
Mr. Brown chuckled and explained, “Mrs. Rowle, it’s true, I’ve only met your daughter once, but that encounter literally saved my life.”
“Saved your life?” Victoria echoed, her eyes growing complicated.
‘So they must be pretty close. No wonder he’s so friendly with Ophelia, Victoria thought.
Ophelia’s gaze cooled, her voice growing distant. “Mr. Brown, you’re giving it too much credit. It wasn’t really a life-saving grace, so there’s no need to dwell on it.”
She had no intention of exposing her identity as a miracle healer, so she was eager to steer the conversation
away.
Mr. Brown hesitated briefly, then smiled. “Ms. Rowle, please don’t feel pressured. Maybe it was nothing to you, but I’m someone who always remembers a kindness. I’ll never forget what you did for me.”
He seemed to catch her meaning, and naturally, he played along without missing a beat.
Ophelia finally smiled politely and asked, “Mr. Brown, what brings you to the Rowle Group’s party?”
She was honestly a bit surprised he’d come all the way from Clearwater City just for the Rowle Group’s anniversary bash.
“I’m planning to expand my business in Dunhollow, so of course I need to get to know the major families here. It just so happened the Rowle Group was throwing their anniversary party, so I figured I’d drop by,” Mr. Brown explained, sounding earnest.
Ophelia raised an eyebrow, a hint of curiosity in her eyes. “You’re planning to expand your business in Dunhollow?”
Mr. Brown’s gaze grew deep and meaningful as he looked at Ophelia. “Yeah.”
“Mr. Brown, you’ve already made a fortune back home, and now you’re looking to stake your claim in
