Chapter 283
Chapter 283
“Ophella, let’s head inside,” Alaric said, finally stopping his teasing.
Ophelia made a face and said, “You go ahead. I want to be alone for a while.”
“Alright, I’ll come find you later,” Alaric sald, giving her a quick reminder before heading off.
He’d seen her slip away from the crowd and thought she had something on her mind, so he came over to keep her company.
But now it seemed she didn’t need him around, so he decided to leave for now.
Ophelia watched him walk away, finally letting out a quiet sigh of relief.
She felt a bit uneasy about what had just happened, but she didn’t want Alaric to notice.
It was an accident, but it still happened.
And for a split second, she realized her heartbeat had gone all out of rhythm. It was such a strange feeling.
As she watched his figure fade into the distance, Ophelia’s gaze gradually darkened…
Feeling a bit unsettled, Ophelia stayed out on the balcony, letting the evening breeze calm her nerves.
Every so often, she’d glance back at the party inside, and happened to catch sight of Zoe and Asher together.
‘What are those two up to?’ Ophelia wondered.
“Did Zoe really get what Asher wanted?” Ophelia murmured, frowning a little.
‘Did I get it wrong? Maybe Asher isn’t after Oliver’s project plan after all, she thought.
She was too far away to catch what they were saying, and couldn’t even see their faces clearly. She could only judge by their actions, and it looked like they were both eyeing someone.
Following their line of sight, Ophelia’s eyes widened in surprise.
“So they really are after Oliver,” Ophelia sneered, a trace of contempt curling at her lips.
‘What a joke. Even if they get their hands on the project plan, the branch could never compete with the headquarters anyway, she thought.
Soon enough, the two went their separate ways, each heading off in a different direction.
Ophelia hesitated for a second, but ended up trailing after Zoe.
If she could catch Zoe making a move, Asher wouldn’t matter anymore, she’d finally get to the bottom of things.
She picked up a glass of wine from a waiter’s tray, acting like she was just mingling, but she never lost sight of Zoe.
Zoe started out mingling with the crowd, but soon began drifting away, putting some distance between herself and everyone else.
Ophelia noticed she was making her way toward Oliver’s private lounge, and her gaze sharpened for a moment.
Moving quietly, Ophelia watched as Zoe slipped inside Oliver’s lounge. She eased the door open just a crack and saw Zoe searching through the room. Without making a sound, Ophelia pulled out her phone…
Just as Zoe seemed to have found her target, a hint of cold amusement flickered across Ophelia’s lips. She was about to push the door open and walk in when a hand suddenly clamped around her wrist.
“Shh,” someone warned softly in her ear, and Ophelia instantly stopped herself from lashing out.
She looked over to see Oliver right beside her, her eyes going wide for a split second. ‘Oliver!’ she gasped inwardly.
Oliver jerked his chin toward the hallway, signaling her to leave.
