Chapter 284
Chapter 284
Ophelia blinked, a bit taken aback. ‘Is Mr. Brown seriously telling everyone about that?’ she thought.
“We just ran into each other by chance. I guess he’s just a little too fixated on it,” Ophelia said, not really caring much.
Once the treatment was over, she never expected they’d have anything to do with each other again. She honestly hadn’t thought he’d keep holding onto that whole ‘life-saving’ thing.
Oliver paused for a moment, his tone cautious as he warned, “Mr. Brown is no ordinary man, both in terms of status and ability. You should stay cautious around him.”
Ophelia arched an eyebrow, her eyes flickering with a mix of emotions.
‘He must be quite the character if even Oliver thinks so, she mused inwardly.
But to her, he was just a former patient, whether she needed to be careful or not didn’t really matter.
Meeting Oliver’s calm, distant gaze, Ophelia nodded. “I know, Oliver. You can relax.”
She could tell Oliver was worried about her, so she decided not to make her family worry.
Seeing her get cautious, Oliver relaxed a little. “Let’s head back to the party.”
“Alright,” Ophelia said, and walked back to the party with Oliver.
But as soon as they got back, Alaric suddenly appeared, leaning his weight against Ophelia’s shoulder and lowering his voice until it was barely a whisper. “Get me out of here.”
Hearing how rough his voice sounded, Ophelia frowned. “What’s wrong?”
Something was definitely off about him, his whole vibe had changed. Ophelia thought to herself, ‘Something’s seriously wrong with him.’
“Let’s go,” Alaric muttered, his voice even deeper now, like he was fighting to keep it together.
Ophelia glanced at him and saw his eyes were bloodshot. Instinctively, she reached out to support him.” Alright, let’s get out of here.”
She had no idea what was going on, but she could tell Alaric was seriously off.
As she helped him along, Ophelia realized his steps were shaky. Her eyes darkened. ‘No way… Did someone drug him?’ she thought.
Supporting his arm, Ophelia checked on him, and her eyes flashed with fury.
‘Just as I thought, he’s been drugged!’ she realized.
‘Who would dare target Alaric at an event like this?
‘Are they insane?
‘Do they really think no one will find out who did this?
‘Or are they just so brazen they don’t even care if they get caught?’
All these thoughts flashed through Ophelia’s mind at once, leaving her feeling anxious and unsettled.
They stepped out of the hotel and the driver pulled up right on cue.
Once they were inside, Ophelia told the driver, “Hospital. Now.”
“On it,” the driver said, firing up the engine and speeding away.
Alaric let go of Ophelia and settled into the seat farthest from her, leaning back as his breathing grew heavy and uneven.
He was painfully aware of his condition, being near her would only make him lose it faster.
“Any idea who did this?” Ophelia’s face was grim, her tone icy.
Alaric shook his head, fighting to keep his composure. “No. But I’ll get to the bottom of it.”
