Chapter 286
Chapter 286
He shot up in bed and blurted out, “Ophelia!”
“Mm?” Ophelia was dozing off at the bedside, half-asleep, when she heard someone call her name. She forced herself awake, still groggy.
When she saw Alaric was awake, Ophelia blinked sleepily, her mind slowly coming into focus.
“You’re up,” Ophelia said, straightening up and reaching out to check his forehead. After confirming he was fine, she added softly, “Looks like you’re alright now.”
Alaric grabbed her hand, flashing a sly little smile. “You watched over me all night, Ophelia.”
Ophelia rolled her eyes and corrected him, pretending to be indifferent. “You could just call it a doctor doing her job.”
After a night to cool off, Ophelia had her feelings sorted out. Yesterday was a total accident, and what happened in the car was just the drug messing with him. Both of them silently agreed to just forget it ever happened.
Alaric glanced up at her, raising his eyebrow ever so slightly.
‘What’s with her attitude? Did something go down last night?’ he wondered.
“You’re fine now. If you’re still worried, just rest up for another day,” Ophelia said, giving him a final reminder before turning to leave.
The drug was a bit tricky to deal with, but now that it’s out of his system, he’s fine.
“Ophelia, did you change my clothes for me?” Alaric suddenly blurted out, making Ophelia freeze mid-step. She turned to look at him, giving him a wary look.
Sure enough, Alaric went on in a low, playful voice, “So you saw everything, huh? Guess you’re responsible for me now.”
Ophelia looked up at the ceiling and let out a long, helpless sigh.
‘Typical Alaric. Why do I even bother listening to him?’ she thought.
“If I had to take responsibility for every little thing as a doctor, I’d have a whole harem by now,” Ophelia said, shooting Alaric a cool, dismissive look. With that, she turned and walked away without a second thought.
She made up her mind. No matter what Alaric said, she wouldn’t look back.
Thankfully, Alaric kept quiet, and she was able to leave.
Watching her leave, Alaric couldn’t help but smile to himself.
This little troublemaker was acting all cold, but he could see right through her. She was just trying to avoid how she really felt.
“Ophelia, when will you finally admit how you feel?” Alaric muttered to himself, shaking his head.
“Mr. Caldwell,” Ryan said as he walked in, his voice soft. “Are you feeling better?”
Alaric got out of bed, his gaze cold as ice.
“Find out exactly what happened last night,” Alaric ordered, his tone sharp and commanding.
“Yes, sir. I’ve already got people on it. We should have some leads soon,” Ryan replied respectfully.
As he spoke, Ryan handed Alaric a garment bag. “Here are your clothes, Mr. Caldwell.”
Alaric grabbed the bag and ducked into the bathroom to get changed.
Back at the Rowle family, Ophelia walked in and saw Zoe sitting on the living room couch, totally spaced out.
Hearing footsteps, Zoe looked up. When she saw it was Ophelia, a flicker of something unreadable flashed in her eyes.
