Chapter 287

But there are no do-overs in this world. In the end, she still lost, and let her best chance slip right through her fingers.

Watching Zoe, whose expression kept shifting, a chill flashed in Ophella’s eyes.

Zoe was the person Ophella suspected most, and seeing her face now, she thought, ‘Maybe I was right to suspect her after all.

“If there’s nothing else, I’m heading back to my room. I was wiped out last night and need some rest,” Ophelia said on purpose, even yawning as she walked toward the elevator.

Zoe’s face darkened, her eyes shooting daggers at Ophelia’s back.

‘Enjoy it while you can. Let’s see how long you can stay smug, Zoe thought.

‘Sooner or later, everything will be mine. Alaric is mine, no one else’s!’

Zoe cast a quick glance at the folder in her hand, then stood up and made a swift exit from the Rowle family’s house.

The first thing Ophelia did after getting back to her room was call Ella.

“Ella, have someone investigate Zoe. I’m pretty sure she was behind what happened at the party last night,” Ophelia said.

“Got it, Boss,” Ella replied.

After everything was set, Ophelia jumped into a hot shower, then crashed straight into bed.

She’d poured so much energy into patching Alaric up last night-no wonder she was totally wiped out and needed to recharge.

When she finally woke up, it was already late.

Ophelia let out a deep breath, sat up, ruffled her hair, and climbed out of bed.

Just then, her phone started ringing.

Ophelia picked it up and answered, “Ella.”

“Boss, Zoe wasn’t behind what happened last night,” Ella said, her voice sounding a bit down, like she was disappointed.

“Not her?” Ophelia raised an eyebrow. ‘So her fake innocent act is even more convincing than before,’ she thought.

Ella hesitated for a moment before saying, “At least she didn’t do it herself.”

Of course, whether she got someone else to do her dirty work or just kept quiet and took advantage of the situation, that was still a mystery.

“Any other clues?” Ophelia said, her voice icy and her gaze cold.

If Zoe didn’t get her hands dirty herself, then someone else had to be in on it. Still, Ophelia was sure Zoe was the one pulling the strings.

“Nothing so far, but Alaric’s team is investigating too. Maybe they’ve already found something,” Ella said. “Why not check in with Alaric, Boss?”

Everyone’s looking into this anyway. If we share info, maybe we’ll figure things out faster.

Ophelia paused for a moment, then said, “Never mind. Just keep an eye on her.”

If Zoe did anything, she won’t be able to hide it forever.

“Alright then,” Ella said, her voice trailing off, clearly disappointed.

Ophelia narrowed her eyes, her voice taking on a dangerous edge. “You sound kinda disappointed.”

“Nope, not really,” Ella replied with an awkward laugh, just thought Mr. Caldwell’s people probably have more Successfully unlocked!

info than us. Whatever, if you don’t wanna ask, it’s cool.”

“Why do I get the feeling you’re acting a little guilty?” Ophelia’s voice grew even colder.

“No way, Boss. Guilty about what? You’ve totally got the wrong idea,” Ella shot back, sounding extra loyal,” Come on, Boss, I’d never betray you.”

At most, I’m just a little nosy, always ready to grab popcorn and watch the drama whenever something juicy happens.
