Chapter 291
Chapter 291
Especially Mr. Lawson, whose gaze kept darting between the two of them. He seemed to sense something was off, his mouth slightly agape in shock.
‘That’s the head of the Brown family from Clearwater City. When have I ever seen him speak to someone so humbly?’ Mr. Lawson thought to himself.
Ophelia raised an eyebrow, giving George Brown a once-over. He looked as calm and collected as ever, not much different from when she’d treated him before. Except now, he looked a lot healthier.
“Mr. Brown,” Ophelia said, her eyes cold as she spoke. “Let’s start the meeting.”
She didn’t actually say she’d agreed to his request, but she did change how she addressed him, no longer calling him by his name directly.
George felt a mix of emotions. In the end, he just sighed to himself and replied, “Alright, let’s start the meeting.” “Mr. Brown, about these project proposals, I think we should tackle them one at a time…” As soon as Ophelia switched to work mode, her presence sharpened and she took charge.
Getting a stack of project proposals all at once was definitely a win, but Ophelia preferred a steady pace, especially when it came to George. For reasons she couldn’t quite explain, she always felt a little guarded around him.
“I’ll go with whatever you decide, Ms. Draven,” George agreed easily.
He couldn’t help feeling a little disappointed. He never thought she’d be so cold toward him when they met again. If he hadn’t said hello first, she’d have acted like he was just some random guy.
Watching Ophelia speak with such poise, George’s eyes grew more intense, a hint of resolve flashing across his gaze.
The meeting ran through the entire morning, and by the time it ended, it was nearly lunchtime.
“Ms. Draven, would you like to have lunch together?” George asked, his eyes smiling as he took the initiative.
“I…” Ophelia looked like she was about to refuse, but George, with a knowing look, added, “Actually, there are a few things I’d like to discuss further with you, Ms. Draven.”
Ophelia raised an eyebrow, instantly catching his drift.
“Alright then. There’s a nice restaurant just across from my office,” Ophelia agreed politely. “Since you’ve come all this way, Mr. Brown, let me treat you to lunch.”
With that, she headed out, calling over her shoulder to Ella, “Go ahead and reserve a table for us.”
“Got it,” Ella replied, heading out ahead of them.
George watched as Ophelia walked away, a hint of resignation in his eyes,
Her courteous manner kept him at arm’s length, making the distance between them feel even greater.
Before long, the group headed out of the office.
Little did they know, Alaric was standing just a short distance away, watching them.
“Well, aren’t you quick on the uptake, Mr. Brown? Found Ms. Draven this fast,” Alaric said, his voice frosty and simmering with barely hidden anger.
“You’re too kind, Mr. Caldwell,” George shot back with a polite smile, but his words were ice-cold. “Ms. Draven is one of a kind. Anyone would be a fool to let her slip through their fingers.”
A dangerous glint flashed in Alaric’s eyes, and the chill in the air around him was so intense it felt like it could freeze the whole street.
“Whether you get left behind or not depends on your own abilities. Honestly, Mr. Brown, I doubt you have what it takes,” Alaric retorted, voice sharp as a blade. ‘If you want to take what’s mine, you’d better think twice before you try,’ he thought, possessiveness burning in his chest.
