Chapter 292

“You want to have lunch alone with him?” Alaric muttered, the word “alone” practically hissing through his teeth.

Ophelia yanked her hand away and rolled her eyes. “We’re working together, okay? It’s just a company lunch, nothing more.”

‘It’s just business, so why is he acting so mad?’ Ophelia thought, feeling a bit frustrated.

Hearing that, Alaric finally relaxed a little, but he still sounded bossy. “Not happening. If I’m here, we’re all eating together.”

Ophelia sighed inwardly, but since she needed to talk to Alaric later anyway, she just gave in. “Alright.” Alaric’s eyes brightened instantly, and he finally looked a little relieved.

George’s eyes darkened. ‘Alaric is always getting in the way, he thought, feeling a wave of frustration. When they got to the restaurant, there was this massive table, but somehow all three of them ended up squeezed together at one end.

Ophelia couldn’t help but wrinkle her nose in disbelief. “Seriously? Can’t you guys sit a little further apart?” Alaric just looked away, picked up his teacup, and let Ophelia pour him some water, blatantly ignoring her

comment.

George stayed put too, not even glancing at Ophelia. He just stared at Alaric, refusing to budge. Clearly, it was a standoff. If Alaric didn’t move, George wasn’t going anywhere either.

Ophelia grumbled to herself, shooting Alaric a frustrated glare. ‘Seriously, can’t you move over first?’

Alaric didn’t even bother replying. He just set the glass of water right in front of her, totally ignoring her complaint. “Here, Ophelia, drink some water.”

Not a chance he was budging. Ophelia was his, and he wasn’t about to let anyone else even think about making a move on her.

Ophelia felt exhausted, rubbing her temples as she told the waiter, “Just bring out the food already.”

‘Let’s just eat and get it over with. Then everyone can go do their own thing, she thought, feeling a headache coming on.

‘Man, this is such a headache, she sighed inwardly.

After a while, all the dishes were finally brought out.

“Ophelia, this is your favorite,” Alaric said as he reached over and served her some food, his gesture both gentle and a little possessive.

“Ms. Draven, I’m new to Dunhollow and not too familiar with the food here. Maybe you could show me what’s good around here?” George said, his tone soft but carrying a subtle undertone.

The vibe at the table instantly got awkward, tension thick enough to cut with a knife.

Alaric shot George a death glare, like he was ready to murder him with just a look.

Ophelia frowned too. “Mr. Brown, Clearwater City isn’t that far from Dunhollow, right? Even if you’re not familiar with the area, the food’s basically the same here as it is over there.”

‘Honestly, I don’t really have any special local dishes to recommend, she thought, feeling a bit awkward.

After all, Dunhollow and Clearwater City are practically neighbors, so there’s really not much difference in what people eat.

George was momentarily taken aback, but when he met Ophelia’s clear, honest eyes, that weird feeling in his chest just melted away.

For a split second, he wondered if she was trying to give him a hard time, but her eyes were so open and
