Chapter 294
Chapter 294
Besides, she didn’t think George was out to play games with her. The five project proposals he brought were all major deals, and everything checked out.
She could even tell he was offering her some pretty favorable terms.
Seeing her stick strictly to business, Alaric’s eyes grew a little darker. “Is it just business between you two?”
Ophelia arched an eyebrow. “What else?”
‘What else is there besides work?’ she thought.
Alaric broke into a grin. “Good. Very good.”
‘See? George’s just wishful thinking, Alaric thought.
Ophelia shot Alaric a suspicious look, her brows furrowing. “You’re being all mysterious. What are you really trying to say?”
“Nothing,” Alaric answered, a smug, contented grin spreading across his face.
“You’re so mysterious,” Ophelia said, rolling her eyes at him in exasperation. She decided to ignore him and switched topics. “So, when are you planning to take action against Felicity?”
Alaric didn’t answer right away. Instead, his expression grew colder as he asked, “Do you have a plan, Ophelia?” “Yeah, I want you to hold off on her for now. If you make a move, we might tip them off,” Ophelia said, her voice low. She wasn’t hiding anything, but she also didn’t spell it out.
Alaric paused for a second, then snorted. “They really have no idea who they’re messing with.”
Ophelia just shrugged. ‘Figures, I can never hide anything from him, she thought.
He’s probably already onto whatever my uncles are scheming.
Alaric glanced down at her, a sly smile playing on his lips. “Since you asked, Ophelia, of course I’ll agree. And if you ever need backup, just say the word, no questions asked.”
Ophelia gave him a look, lips twitching as she shot him down. “I don’t need your help.”
‘He’s already back to his usual antics, Ophelia thought, rolling her eyes.
“Ophelia, you’re turning down my heartfelt offer,” Alaric said, clutching his chest in mock agony. “You’re really breaking my heart here.”
“Alright, alright,” Ophelia said, rolling her eyes at him. “If you’ve got nothing else, just go already.”
‘Seriously, he just finished talking business and now he’s acting up again, Ophelia thought, exasperated.
But instead of leaving, Alaric just strode over and swept her right into his arms, holding her tight.
“Hey! What are you doing? Let me go!” Ophelia blurted out, her face turning crimson as she tried to wriggle out of his grip.
Alaric only hugged her tighter, burying his face in her shoulder and sounding all pitiful. “Ophelia, I can’t stand other men staring at you.”
Especially George. The way he looked at Ophelia was just too soft, and it rubbed Alaric the wrong way.
“Am I supposed to just hide at home all day?” Ophelia rolled her eyes, exasperated. “Besides, what does your opinion have to do with me?”
“It matters. It matters more than you think,” Alaric said, his voice suddenly serious. “I only care about you, Ophelia.”
That was exactly why he hated it. He couldn’t stand anyone with ulterior motives getting anywhere near Ophelia.
Ophelia’s heart skipped a beat, and she went still for a moment.
With how serious he sounded, she found herself unable to gran back at him.
