Chapter 296
Oliver didn’t answer right away. After a brief silence, he suddenly asked, “Ophelia, where are you? Is anyone with you?”
“Huh?” Ophelia blurted out, caught off guard. “I’m in the office.”
“The office?” Oliver’s voice was still cool, but there was a hint of concern in it. “Whose office?”
Ophelia’s face fell, and she shot Alaric an even more resentful look.
Ophelia thought to herself, ‘Crap, if I don’t just spill the truth, there’s no way I’m getting out of this mess. With a sigh, she said helplessly, “My office.”
“Oh.” Oliver didn’t sound surprised at all. He just asked calmly, “Who’s with you?”
That one question made it clear. He already knew someone was with Ophelia.
Ophelia frowned, not getting why Oliver kept asking who was there. She instinctively glanced over at Alaric.
Alaric’s eyes flashed with a sly glint as he raised his voice. “Oliver, bro, it’s me.”
“Hey, shut up!” Ophelia blurted out, totally thrown off. She couldn’t believe Alaric had just spoken up, and even called Oliver “bro”!
‘He’s not even your brother, and you just call him that?’ Ophelia thought, completely baffled.
Oliver was clearly caught off guard too, and went quiet for a moment.
“Ophelia, I know you two are close, but watch yourself, okay? You’re at work. Don’t get all too personal in the office. People talk,” Oliver couldn’t help but warn her.
“Huh? Wait, what?” Ophelia blinked, totally thrown off, her eyes popping wide. “Oliver, what are you even saying?”
‘What does he mean by “people talk”? And what does he mean by “too personal”? Did I miss something?’ Ophelia wondered, completely baffled.
“Ophelia, I know you’re technically an adult, but you’re still a student. Some things just aren’t appropriate,” Oliver sighed, sounding exactly like a nagging parent.
Ophelia was still stuck trying to figure it out when Oliver abruptly hung up, leaving her even more confused.
Listening to the busy tone, Ophelia glanced at Alaric, looking confused. “Did you understand any of that?”
“Uh… just forget about it,” Alaric replied, not really wanting to explain.
Ophelia’s eyes flickered for a second. She hadn’t caught on at first, but when she saw the sly grin on Alaric’s face, she started to put the pieces together.
After a moment, her expression turned stormy.
“Alaric, don’t ever let me see you again!” Ophelia yelled, practically throwing him out of the office.
She finally realized Oliver had totally gotten the wrong idea.
He thought there was something going on between her and Alaric, and even worse, he probably suspected they were up to something inappropriate!
She was so frustrated she could explode.
“Ophelia, come on, it’s not my fault. Oliver totally misunderstood! You can’t blame me for this,” Alaric pleaded, sounding genuinely aggrieved.
“Bang!”
The only thing that greeted him was the cold, unyielding door.
He lifted his hand to knock, but Ophelia was one step ahead. Her voice, teeth clenched in fury, came through the door: “You’d better leave right now, or don’t blame me if Flip out
