Chapter 297
Chapter 297
Inside the room, Ophelia was a mess, totally stressed out.
“Great, now I couldn’t explain myself even if I had ten mouths,” Ophelia grumbled, clearly annoyed. “Alaric, don’t let me see you again.”
That drama king was seriously driving her up the wall.
Rubbing her flushed cheeks, Ophelia stormed back to her desk, still fuming.
She wanted to call Oliver and explain everything, but after hesitating for ages, she just put the phone down.
“Forget it. If I call him now, it’ll just look like I’m trying to cover something up. Might as well just let things play out,” Ophelia sighed, feeling helpless.
Let them think whatever. As long as there’s nothing going on between her and Alaric, people will get it sooner or later.
Rubbing her temples, Ophelia slumped back in her chair, completely drained. She had zero motivation to work. All she wanted was to be left alone for a while.
Before she realized it, the workday was already over.
“Knock, knock, knock.”
After the knock, her secretary’s voice came through. “Ms. Draven, time to off work.”
“Alright, I know,” Ophelia replied, frowning. “Where’s Ella?”
“Ms. Prescott said she didn’t want to take the fall, so she left early,” the secretary replied.
Ophelia blinked, not getting it. “Take the fall?”
“That’s what she said. I honestly have no idea what she meant,” the secretary explained.
Ophelia paused, her expression souring as a helpless sigh escaped her lips. “Alright, you can go.”
“Okay,” the secretary replied and left.
Ophelia got up and slowly walked out of her office. Thinking about Ella’s words, she rolled her eyes, totally
done with her nonsense.
As soon as she stepped out of the building, she was greeted by a massive bouquet of bright red roses. It was so huge it completely blocked out whoever was behind it.
Ophelia didn’t even need a second glance to know it was Alaric.
Not wanting to deal with him, she acted like he wasn’t even there and tried to slip past.
“Ophelia, I messed up,” Alaric said, his voice pleading as he hugged the massive bouquet. “I’m here to apologize. Please, accept these flowers as a sign of how sorry I am.”
Ophelia stopped walking, her tone serious as she asked, “You really want to apologize?”
“Of course. All I want is for you to be happy. Just say the word, and I’ll do anything you ask,” Alaric said,
craning his neck to peek out from behind the flowers, his eyes full of sincerity.
Ophelia’s lips curled into a knowing smile as she asked again, her tone laced with meaning, “Really?”
Alaric immediately shook his head and changed his tune, “Anything but that. If you want me to disappear from your life, that’s the one thing I can’t do.”
Ophelia pursed her lips, her tone icy. “Well, then I guess I don’t need anything. Just go.”
‘Typical. He’s such a smooth operator, caught on in a heartbeat,’ Ophelia thought.
“Please, Ophelia,” Alaric said, sounding genuinely helpless. “Let me go to the Rowle family and explain everything. I’ll talk to your brother myself.”
“You? Explain?” Ophelia shot him a look and rolled her eyes I’m worried you’ll just make things worse.”
