Chapter 298
Chapter 298
‘Wasn’t he supposed to be apologizing?
‘Is he seriously dropping a love confession right now?’
“Ophelia, watch out!” Alaric yelled, but Ophelia froze, totally caught off guard.
Suddenly, there was the deafening roar of an engine in her ears. Alaric jumped in front of her, shoving her aside, and then he hit the ground. The car screeched past, crashing into the entrance of the New City Tower.
She could see chaos everywhere, but it was like her ears had just stopped working.
All she could see was Alaric lying in a pool of blood, his blood soaking into the roses, turning them an even more shocking shade of red.
“Boss, what happened? Are you alright?” Ella rushed over, looking panicked as she checked on Ophelia.
Hearing Ella call out, Ophelia finally snapped out of her daze.
“Ella, call an ambulance! Hurry!” Ophelia shouted, her voice tight with urgency, before rushing over to Alaric.
She crouched down and carefully looked him over, her hands visibly shaking.
In that instant, her heart felt like it had been ripped open.
“Alaric, open your eyes. Look at me,” Ophelia called out, her voice trembling.
But Alaric didn’t respond. His eyes stayed shut, and he just lay there, motionless, like all the life had drained out of him.
“Ms. Rowle, the ambulance is here,” Ryan came over and quietly said.
“Let’s go to the hospital, now!” Ophelia climbed into the ambulance, never leaving Alaric’s side, anxiously watching over him all the way and following him straight into the operating room.
“Dr. Rowle, are you sure you’re up for this?” Elijah asked, sounding uneasy.
He was clearly concerned. Normally, the family would be kept out of the operating room. Ophelia wasn’t officially family, but anyone could see how much she cared about Alaric.
Ophelia drew a deep breath, her gaze steely. “I can handle it.”
There was no way she could just wait outside. She needed to know his condition right away.
With her here, she wasn’t about to let anything happen to him.
Ophelia bent down, her voice barely above a whisper in Alaric’s ear. “Alaric, don’t you dare give up on me. Hang in there. We’re getting out of this operating room together, safe and sound.”
“Elijah, let’s get started,” Ophelia said, her tone cool and laser-focused. She was all business now, every inch the surgeon.
Watching her stay so calm and collected, Elijah finally relaxed a little and got right to work with Ophelia, fully trusting her lead.
Three hours later.
Ella had been pacing outside like a cat on a hot tin roof, and finally, the operating room light went off. “Come on, Ryan, hurry!” Ella called out, already rushing to the door.
Ryan hurried after her, just as anxious.
The operating room doors opened, and Ophelia emerged, looking utterly drained. Ella immediately rushed over to steady her, asking anxiously, “Boss, how is he?”
“They’re moving him to the ICU. If he wakes up by tomorrow morning, he’ll be out of danger,” Ophelia managed to say, her voice barely a whisper. Then she fainted straight into Ella’s arms.
Ella’s face went pale with worry as she called out “Boss, what’s wrong? Are you okay?”
