Chapter 306
Chapter 306
Alaric just shrugged, feigning innocence. “Looks like I’m the one who took the hit. Tell me, Mr. Brown, would you dare to put your life on the line for her?”
What he really meant was, ‘I’d stake my life to protect her. Would you even dare?’
Suddenly, the room went dead silent. The answer was written all over George’s face, and he looked even more uncomfortable.
He had to admit, if it were just him-just George-he would do it. After all, Ophelia had once saved his life.
But he wasn’t just George anymore. He was also the head of the Brown family in Clearwater City, with all the responsibilities that came with it.
George met Alaric’s gaze, his eyes narrowing with a cold edge. “Even so, that doesn’t prove anything.”
‘Does risking your life for her really mean you love her?’ George wondered, doubt swirling in his mind.
Alaric just shrugged it off and turned to Ophelia. “Ophelia, my wound hurts. I think it might have split open.”
“Split open?” Ophelia frowned, walking over to him. “How did that happen? Did it happen when you switched rooms?”
As she spoke, Ophelia was already at Alaric’s bedside, tugging at his clothes to check his wound.
“Maybe it’s because I’m so angry,” Alaric said in a low, dramatic voice, making Ophelia freeze.
‘Angry? Really?’ Ophelia thought, completely thrown off.
Alaric grabbed Ophelia’s hand, putting on his most pitiful face. “Ophelia, he’s not here to check on me. He’s just here to annoy me. Can you please make him leave?”
Ophelia’s lips twitched uncontrollably as she stared at Alaric, totally speechless.
‘Mr. Caldwell, you’re not just dramatic, you’re downright extra, Ophelia thought, exasperated.
Hearing footsteps behind her, Ophelia glanced back to see George tagging along into the room, her brows knitting almost imperceptibly.
“Mr. Brown, you’re not here for me, so barging into my room is a bit much, don’t you think?” Alaric said bluntly, not bothering to be polite as he called George out.
There was no way he and George would ever be friends. George was obviously a rival for her affection, so why should Alaric cut him any slack?
If he weren’t injured, he would’ve gone for him right then and there.
‘The nerve of this guy, even daring to set his sights on my woman,’ Alaric thought, jaw tight.
He wasn’t about to give George a single opening.
“In that case…” George set the bouquet of lilies down on Alaric’s bedside table, a hint of defiance in his voice. “Looks like I’ m here to check on you now, Mr. Caldwell.”
George had no intention of leaving. There was this uneasy feeling gnawing at him, a vague sense of dread he just couldn’t
shake.
“Appreciate it, Mr. Brown,” Alaric said with a self-satisfied look. “You gave the lilies to Ophelia first, and now to me. Must mean Ophelia and I are meant to be together forever.”
George’s face darkened for a moment. ‘Did he really just say that?’ he thought, irritation flickering in his eyes.
