Chapter 307

Chapter 307

George’s eyes narrowed for a moment. Realizing he was at a disadvantage, he could only bite back his frustration and say, I’ll just sit for a bit and then leave.”

After that, he turned to Ophelia and asked, “Ms. Rowle, when are you getting discharged? I can come pick you up.”

“I might need to take care of Mr. Caldwell for a few more days,” Ophelia said, shaking her head at George. “You don’t need to come pick me up. Ella will take care of my discharge.”

Either way, she had no reason to let him pick her up.

“You’re injured and you’ve just been through shock. You should be resting. Doesn’t the hospital have caregivers or orderlies?” George frowned, clearly annoyed.

His tone was a bit harsh, almost like he was scolding Alaric for it.

“I’m his attending physician, so it’s my responsibility to look after him,” Ophelia replied, her eyes calm as she looked at George. “And I’m really fine, George. No need to get so worked up.”

“George, you’re wasting my treatment time here. If you really care about Ophelia, maybe try actually helping out instead of just running your mouth,” Alaric snapped back, not bothering to be polite.

Alaric wasn’t stupid. He knew exactly what George was implying. The guy thought Alaric was making Ophelia work too hard.

But if George hadn’t barged in and stirred things up, Alaric would’ve already been cuddling with Ophelia and getting some rest. So who was really making things harder for her?

The more Alaric dwelled on it, the more pissed off he got, and his expression turned downright stormy.

Ophelia gave him a concerned look and asked, “What’s wrong? Is it your injury acting up?”

“Just tired, that’s all,” Alaric mumbled, looking completely wiped out.

“Why don’t you lie down for a bit,” Ophelia said gently. “You still need plenty of rest.”

Alaric gripped Ophelia’s hand tightly, shot George a cold look, and said bluntly, “George, see yourself out.”

“George, appreciate you stopping by. As for work, Ella will handle everything and get in touch with you,” Ophelia said, pausing before adding, “So I won’t be able to host you today.”

Right now, Alaric’s health came first, and she had to look after him personally.

George’s eyes darkened for a moment. ‘So she really thinks I’m only here for work? Does she seriously not get that I’m actually worried about her? That I care?’ he thought.

He clenched his jaw just a little, but still stood up and said politely, “I won’t bother you any longer. I’ll come visit you again tomorrow, Ms. Rowle.”

Even so, he wasn’t about to give up. He was determined to make her see how he really felt.

After George left, Alaric looked up at Ophelia and said, “Ophelia, now that the annoying guy’s finally gone, I want to rest. Will you stay with me?”

“Just sleep, I’ll be right here,” Ophelia replied softly, settling herself by the bedside.

Alaric’s eyes were clouded with frustration as he protested, “Ophelia, you promised I could fall asleep with you in my arms.”

Ophelia gave him a sharp look and warned, “It’s daytime.”

‘Is he really not bothered that people are passing by outside?’ Ophelia thought.

Seeing how embarrassed she was, Alaric looked a little disappointed, but he gave in anyway. “Fine, tonight then. You promised, Ophelia, no backing out.”

Ophelia bit her lip, her cheeks turning pink as her face grew hot.j

Avoiding Alaric’s gaze, Ophelia quickly changed the subject. “Get some rest. I’ll go check your medical report.”

“Ophelia,” Alaric reached out and took her hand without thinking. “Once you grab the report, go get some rest in your own room. If I need anything, I’ll call you.”

He knew she could use some rest too. Since she didn’t want to stay with him, he figured he might as well let her rest in her

own room.
