Chapter 311

Chapter 311

‘That bastard really knows how to take advantage of every situation, Ophelia thought.

Still, she gritted her teeth and forced herself to stay calm, giving Ryan a steady look. “Alright, I got it.”

“Sorry to trouble you, Ms. Rowle. I’ll head back now and come by again tomorrow, Ryan said, nodding at her.

“Okay,” Ophelia replied, though she wasn’t planning to head to the hospital room just yet.

Ryan gave her one last look, hesitated, but ended up saying nothing and walked away.

Ophelia spent a moment alone to collect herself, then took a deep breath, got up, and made her way to the hospital room.

But unexpectedly, she bumped into Oliver right at the door.

“Oliver, what brings you here?” Ophelia asked, stepping aside. “Let’s head in and talk.”

The two of them walked into the hospital room..

Alaric was lounging in bed. When he saw Ophelia and Oliver walk in, he arched an eyebrow. “So, Mr. Rowle, you came to check on me?”

Oliver shot Alaric a frosty glance. “Actually, I came for my sister. But since she wasn’t in her room, I figured she must be here with you, Mr. Caldwell.”

Alaric just grinned, acting like he didn’t notice the jab. “Next time, just come straight here, Mr. Rowle. Ophelia cares about me, so of course she’s with me.”

Oliver sat down, his eyes cold. “I’m sure the Caldwell family can afford a nurse. But since you got hurt because of Ophelia, it’ s only fair the Rowle family helps out.”

“Naturally,” Alaric replied with a smirk. “Hiring a nurse works for me.”

Then Alaric turned to Ophelia. “Ophelia only agreed to stay with me. If there’s someone else to look after me, that’s even better.”

Ophelia’s eyes narrowed for a moment, her expression growing more guarded.

His words sounded perfectly normal, like he was just being considerate, but she could hear the warning loud and clear.

He wasn’t talking about ordinary care. He meant having her sleep beside him at night. If they hired a nurse, was that person supposed to just sit there and watch them all night?

Obviously, that was out of the question. Who could actually sleep with someone else staring at them?

Ophelia shot Alaric a resentful glare. ‘That cunning fox,’ she thought.

Oliver was clearly making things difficult for Alaric, but he just dumped it all on her instead.

But she couldn’t say anything. How could she just tell Oliver, ‘Forget the nurse, it’s awkward sleeping with him at night?’

She bit back her frustration and turned to Oliver, her expression softening into a smile. “Oliver, you came here for something, right?”

‘Whatever, better change the subject. If I keep this up, I’m just digging my own grave,’ she thought.

Oliver’s eyes flashed with helplessness. ‘Can’t keep a grown daughter at home, huh? Now she’s already sticking up for her man, he thought.

But seeing Ophelia’s face, he couldn’t bring himself to blame her. Instead, his attitude toward Alaric turned even frostier.

Noticing the icy vibe, Alaric rubbed his nose, trying to look all innocent.

‘I didn’t even do anything wrong, did I? Why is her big brother so unhappy with me?’ he wondered.

Then Alaric gave Ophelia a pitiful look, his eyes full of complaint: Ophelia, your brother’s bullying me.’

Ophelia rubbed her forehead, feeling like she just couldn’t deal with this right now.

She sighed under her breath, giving Oliver a helpless look. “Oliver, any news about the car accident?”

Oliver looked at her deeply, and Ophelia looked away, feeling awkward.
