Chapter 313
Chapter 313
“Oliver, it’s getting late. Why don’t you head home and get some rest?” Ophelia asked, hesitating a little as she bit her lip.
Oliver raised an eyebrow at her, looking a bit helpless. “So you’re getting rid of me before the job’s even done?
He thought, ‘Just finished talking about Cameron, and now she’s telling me to go
‘Am I really getting in the way here?”
“No, that’s not it, Oliver,” Ophelia said, giving him a helpless smile. “You’ve really been working hard because of me these past couple of days. I just feel bad for you.”
‘He has to manage the company and still keep investigating my accident. I really do feel for hir, Ophelia thought.
Hearing this, Oliver let out a quiet huff, but his mood seemed to lighten a little.
Alaric, looking smug, said, “If you really care about Ophelia, just head home already. She’ll finally get some peace once you leave. If you stick around, she’ll just have to keep entertaining you.”
‘Ha, about time I got to mess with him, Alaric thought.
Ophelia shot Alaric an annoyed glare, warning him to shut up. ‘Could he not make things even more awkward right now? she thought.
Oliver shot Alaric a cool glance, then stood up and said to Ophelia with a meaningful tone.
“Ophelia, there are plenty of ways to repay someone for saving your life. You don’t have to devote yourself to them. One of these days, I’ll introduce you to some of my friends. They’re the cream of the crop, and most importantly, they’re all genuinely good guys.”
He gave Ophelia a deep, meaningful look and reminded her, “When it comes to choosing your life partner, keep your eyes wide open. Someone who’s too calculating just isn’t right for you.”
With that, he walked out without a second glance, completely ignoring Alaric’s stormy face.
‘That was pure payback. Seriously, how is that even fair?’ Alaric fumed to himself.
“Ophelia, don’t listen to a word he says. With how sly and sharp-tongued he is, his friends are probably just as bad,” Alaric snapped, sounding genuinely pissed as he badmouthed Oliver.
‘He wants to introduce Ophelia to other guys? Over my dead body, Alaric thought, possessiveness flaring up.
“Alright, just zip it,” Ophelia said, shooting him a look of annoyance. “Oliver might be a little cold, but his taste in friends is actually pretty solid.”
‘Honestly, the way he talks, you’d think there isn’t a single decent person left on earth, Ophelia thought.
Alaric’s face grew serious. “Ophelia, do you have something else on your mind?”
‘Why is she defending Oliver again? That scheming guy, Alaric muttered to himself.
“What do you mean, something else on my mind?” Ophelia blinked, not quite catching his drift.
“So you really think those friends Oliver mentioned are better than me? Are you just going to dump me for one of them in the end?” Alaric complained, looking absolutely devastated, like a jilted boyfriend who’d just been left out in the cold.
Ophelia nearly burst out laughing, but managed to hold it in. Seriously, she couldn’t even bring herself to look at him right
now.
‘Alaric, have you no shame?’ Ophelia thought.
“Go to sleep. I’m heading out to get some water,” Ophelia said, shooting Alaric a look. “And when I come back, make sure you’re actually asleep.”
Seeing how calm but stubborn she was, Alaric flashed her a playful, obedient grin. “Alright, I’ll go to sleep. Don’t worry about waking me up. I’d actually love it if you did.”
With that, Alaric flopped down on the bed, acting all well-behaved and ready to doze off.
