Chapter 316
Chapter 316
‘Crap, Boss is seriously mad this time,’ Ella thought, feeling doomed.
“Boss, please don’t be mad, it’s all my fault. I just let my curiosity get the best of me. I thought you and Mr. Caldwell were already a thing, but you kept it from me. Aren’t I your most trusted person? How could you hide something like that from me?
“So I figured I’d catch you red-handed and snapped a photo, but Mr. Caldwell saw me and asked for it. I couldn’ t say no. Whatever punishment you give me, I’ll accept it, just please don’t be mad at me,” Ella stammered, her voice trembling as she apologized over and over.
Usually, they just messed around, but when Ophelia actually got mad, Ella was totally out of her depth. Listening to Ella, Ophelia couldn’t help massaging her temples, feeling a headache coming on. “It’s all just a misunderstanding. If it were true, why would I bother hiding it from you? It’s not like it’s some big secret or anything.”
‘Seriously, Ella’s gossip addiction must have fried her brain, Ophelia thought, completely exasperated. Seeing Ophelia’s expression soften, Ella ventured, “So… you’re not mad anymore, Boss?”
“I’m still mad,” Ophelia rolled her eyes at her, pretending to be serious.
Ella could tell Ophelia wasn’t really angry, so she grinned sheepishly. “So… does that mean you’re not going to punish me?”
“Keep dreaming,” Ophelia snorted. “Get Mr. Brown’s contract signed within three days.”
“What?” Ella’s face fell. “Boss, that’s gonna kill me.”
“Just keeping you busy so you won’t have time for any more wild ideas,” Ophelia said, totally unfazed, even glancing at her watch on purpose. “One minute down, three days left.”
“Boss, if you don’t see me in three days, just come to my place and fish my body out,” Ella groaned miserably, then turned and dashed out of the room.
Sure, the job was a beast, but if she really gave it her all, she could totally make it happen.
Of course, it meant going all out and hustling like crazy, so right now, every second was a race against the clock.
Just as she reached the door, Ella suddenly froze, turned back to Ophelia like she was heading to her doom, and asked, “Boss, did I really get it all wrong about you and Mr. Caldwell?”
‘So Boss wasn’t actually hiding anything from me… I really chased the wrong rumor this time, Ella thought, mentally facepalming at her own stupidity.
Ophelia’s face almost split in disbelief, and she shot Ella a death glare. “Two days.”
“Oh, so I really did mess it up,” Ella muttered, resigning herself to her tragic fate as she shuffled out. “But
honestly, you two totally look like a couple. Ugh, I got dragged into this mess for nothing.”
After Ella left, Ophelia, still annoyed, tossed the phone back to Alaric and snapped, “Delete that photo.”
‘Seriously? He and Ella actually went behind my back and did this. If I hadn’t caught them by accident, I’d have been clueless forever,’ Ophelia grumbled to herself, equal parts annoyed and exasperated.
