Chapter 318
Chapter 318
Ophelia glared at him, her voice sharp with warning. “Get off me. Now.”
“Ophelia, don’t be so mean. I’m being good, see?” Alaric pouted, refusing to let go. “You told me to watch out for my injury, and I am! Like this, there’s no way I’m hurting it.”
“Alaric!” Ophelia snapped, her frustration boiling over. “I said let me go!”
“Fine,” Alaric sighed dramatically, finally letting her go.
Once she was free, Ophelia stood at the edge of the bed, eyes downcast and looking a little upset.
‘He’s totally taking advantage of the situation, just because he knows I won’t walk away and leave him while he’ s hurt, Ophelia thought, so damn annoyed but powerless to do anything about it.
Seeing her icy glare, Alaric put on his best innocent act. “Hey, Ophelia, you were the one who jumped me. Ryan saw the whole thing, he can totally vouch for me. I’m just an innocent bystander here, so you can’t blame me!”
Ophelia just rolled her eyes, too exasperated to even argue back.
‘Just great. Now it’s all on me,’ she thought, feeling even more frustrated.
Ophelia took a deep breath and called out toward the door, “Ryan!”
“Yeah?” Ryan stepped in, still sounding awkward. “Anything you need, Mrs. Caldwell?”
He barely dared to look up, acting like he was terrified he’d catch a glimpse of something he really shouldn’t
see.
Ophelia’s face darkened, and she couldn’t help but grimace.
‘Did I just get iced out, or did something weird just happen to me?’ Ophelia wondered, feeling totally out of the loop.
‘Why does talking to people suddenly feel so impossible?’ she thought, frustrated.
“I’ve got things to do today. You make sure someone’s here to look after him,” Ophelia said through gritted teeth, then hurried out before she could say anything else.
If she stayed a second longer, she was seriously worried she might just lose her cool.
After Ophelia left, Ryan glanced at Alaric, looking a bit confused. “Mr. Caldwell, did I say something wrong?”
‘Why does it feel like Mrs. Caldwell is pretty mad?’ Ryan wondered, feeling uneasy.
‘Mr. Caldwell cares about her so much. Am I going to get in trouble for this?’ Ryan thought, suddenly worried.
“Nope,” Alaric said with a big grin, messing with his phone. “She’s just shy, that’s all.”
‘Well, looks like my phone and that photo survived another round, Alaric thought, smirking to himself.
“Oh,” Ryan looked relieved as he came over and set the thermos down. “Breakfast’s ready.”
“Sure,” Alaric said, obviously in a good mood and going along with it.
“Mr. Caldwell, the police have taken over the Cameron situation… And as for the company…” Ryan started, trying to keep things professional.
Alaric ate while Ryan filled him in on the latest updates.

Once Ophelia stepped out of the hospital, she took a deep breath, her heart finally stopped racing so much.
She bit her lip, her gaze softening for a second.
She just wasn’t on edge around Alaric anymore.
She didn’t mind him getting close. She didn’t even try to push him away. Being with him made her feel totally at ease, and sometimes she’d even catch herself looking out for him without realizing it.
Maybe there was something between her and Alaric that was about to spark, and she could feel it.
