Chapter 319
It seemed like any topic other than work was off-limits between them now.
“Huh?” Ophelia Rowle frowned slightly, looking a bit lost. “Mr. Brown, is there something else you need?”
‘He came to Dunhollow just to grow his business, right? Honestly, besides work, there’s nothing for us to talk about, Ophelia thought to herself.
Seeing how she didn’t seem to care at all, George let out a quiet sigh. “Ms. Rowle, I remember telling you before. You saved my life. I wasn’t joking.”
“Oh, that?” Ophelia said, still sounding totally unconcerned. “Well, you did pay me, so it’s not really a favor. At best, it was just a regular transaction.”
He paid her for her treatment, so they didn’t owe each other anything.
George’s eyes darkened with seriousness. “I’ve paid plenty of people, but you’re the only one who ever managed to fix me up.”
Ophelia paused, her gaze matter-of-fact. “When it comes to medicine, no one can guarantee a hundred percent success. It’s not something you need to dwell on, Mr. Brown.”
Kael let out a helpless sigh and shook his head. “Alright, I won’t bring it up again. Still, we’ve crossed paths. Can’t we at least call ourselves friends?”
Ophelia looked up at George, and he met her eyes openly, not backing down.
After a moment, Ophelia nodded. “Yeah, we’ve met, and we’re partners now, after all.”
When it comes to friendship, just being acquaintances and actually being close are worlds apart.
Right now, they weren’t familiar with each other at all. If they ever did get close, what kind of friends they’d become. Well, that was up to fate.
Hearing that, George broke into a genuine smile. “Is it alright if I call you Ophelia from now on?”
Everything in Dunhollow had gone smoothly for him, but this was the first time he’d actually felt genuinely happy here.
Ophelia hesitated, a slight frown crossing her face. “Better stick with Rowle, Mr. Brown.”
The nickname ‘Ophelia’ just felt way too personal for her, and honestly, it made her a little uncomfortable.
A flicker of disappointment crossed George’s eyes, but he gave it another shot. “Then, would you mind calling me George?”
If she wouldn’t let him get too close, at least letting her call him by his name was some kind of consolation.
Ophelia bit her lip for a moment, then finally agreed. “Alright.”
Hearing that, George’s lips curved into a pleased smile. “Deal.”
At least there was some progress, and for him, that was enough.
“So, Ms. Rowle, what are you up to now?” George asked, his eyes crinkling with a smile.
“What about you?” Ophelia shot back, dodging the question. Honestly, she really didn’t want to get into her plans with him.
George shrugged, giving her a knowing look. “I just wanted to see you. You haven’t had breakfast yet, have you? I haven’t either. Want to grab something together?”
Seeing that she clearly didn’t want to talk about it, he let it go. He just wanted to spend a little more time with her.
Ophelia was actually feeling pretty hungry, so she agreed. “Alright.”
Before long, the two of them were seated at a restaurant near the hospital.
“Something simple and light is fine, right?” Ophelia asked George.
