Chapter 321
“Is that wrong?” George tilted his chin, his voice steady, but his aura matched Alaric Caldwell’s every
bit.
“Mr. Caldwell, you’d better have a good reason for coming down here,” Ophelia said, her face darkening as she looked at Alaric, her tone laced with irritation.
Seeing her stern little face, Alaric’s brows drew together, a wave of annoyance bubbling up inside him.
‘I’m not even mad yet, so why is she the one getting upset?’ he thought.
Alaric sat down, his face unreadable. “I’m hungry. Here for breakfast.”
“You’re hungry?” Ophelia gave him a skeptical look, head tilted, clearly not buying it.
‘Ryan literally brought him breakfast, and now he says he’s hungry?’ she thought.
‘Seriously, could he not come up with a better excuse?’ she grumbled inwardly.
“Then what do you think I’m here for, Ophelia?” Alaric’s face grew even darker.
‘She ditches me to have breakfast with another guy, and now she’s doubting my words?’ he fumed inwardly.
Sure, he’d already eaten, but what else was he supposed to say?
‘Tell her I thought she left because she was embarrassed or mad, so I sent Ryan to check on her, and when I found out she was having breakfast with George, I got pissed and came after her?’ he thought.
“Alaric, what the hell are you doing? You’re hurt, remember? Why are you out of your room, just wandering around like nothing’s wrong? If your wound gets infected, it’s gonna be a mess, you get that?”
Ophelia snapped, her frustration clear. ‘Honestly, does he even care about himself? He’s driving me crazy, she thought.
“What am I doing?” Alaric felt his temples pounding. ‘She’s out here with another guy, and I’m the bad guy for showing up?’ he grumbled to himself.
“If this isn’t you making a fuss, then what is it?” Ophelia rolled her eyes at him, totally fed up.
“Mr. Caldwell, since you’re not exactly in top shape, maybe you should listen to Ophelia. She’s your attending physician. After all, your health is her responsibility,” George said, his voice laced with a mocking undertone.
Alaric’s face darkened on the spot. ‘So he’s just gonna be snarky about it, huh?’ he thought.
A shadow passed through Alaric’s eyes, and he suddenly hunched over the table, clutching his stomach.” Ophelia, I came looking for you. My wound’s been killing me. I’m worried it’s torn open or something.”
“If your wound hurts, why didn’t you say something earlier?” Ophelia shot him a resentful glare, clearly annoyed. “Couldn’t you have just called me? Why did you have to come all the way down here?”
“I thought you were just taking a walk nearby. I had no idea I’d end up all the way out here,” Alaric said with a sigh. “If I’d known you were this far, I would’ve just called.”
“If you hadn’t run into George, you wouldn’t have found me at all,” Ophelia said, shaking her head. ‘Honestly, if that’s the case, was he planning to search all of Dunhollow for me?’ she thought.
Alaric raised an eyebrow. ‘So they really just happened to run into each other?’ he mused, not quite convinced.
‘Even if it was just a coincidence, did they really have to sit down and eat together?’ he griped to himself.
‘And what’s up with her calling him George?’ he thought, a hint of jealousy creeping in.
‘She always calls me Mr. Caldwell, but now it’s just George for him?’ Alaric fumed, feeling more than a little annoyed.
“Get up, I’ll help you back,” Ophelia said, shooting him a frustrated glare. ‘He really doesn’t know how to take care of himself. Sometimes I really don’t want to deal with him, she thought.
“Alright, sorry to trouble you, Ophelia,” Alaric said, letting her help him up. He draped his arm over her shoulder, leaning heavily against her, almost as if he was hanging onto her for dear life.
