Chapter 323

Chapter 323

“This won’t do,” Ophelia said, biting her lip for a moment before her eyes turned serious. “I’ll mix up some stronger medicine for your poultice, so your wounds can heal faster.”

‘If his wounds don’t heal soon, things could get ugly, she thought, worry gnawing at her.

“Let me change your bandages first, then you need to lie down and rest. And don’t even think about moving around again. Do you hear me?” Ophelia warned, her eyes sharp.

“Okay, I know. Whatever you say, Ophelia. I’m all yours,” Alaric replied, looking as obedient as ever.

Ophelia shot him a frustrated look. “You better not forget.”

‘If he keeps refusing to cooperate, I might really have to strap him to the bed, Ophelia thought, a hint of exasperation in her mind.

After carefully tending to all his wounds, Ophelia breathed a sigh of relief. “Alright, remember, don’t move around.”

As she spoke, Ophelia stood up, but a sudden wave of dizziness washed over her. Her vision went dark, and before she knew it, her body gave out and she collapsed forward.

“Ophelia!” Alaric reacted instantly, catching her and holding her close in his arms.

Ophelia kept her eyes shut for a moment, steadying herself until the dizzy spell finally faded.

Slowly, she opened her eyes, only to meet Alaric’s deep, anxious gaze, his eyes filled with worry.

“Ophelia, are you alright?” Alaric asked, concern etched in his voice.

“Just a bit of low blood sugar, that’s all. I’ll be fine after a short rest,” Ophelia said, shaking her head gently. The weakness faded away.

As she tried to get up, Ophelia suddenly realized Alaric was still holding her close, and she was nestled right in his lap. The way they were tangled together felt almost scandalously intimate.

Her heart gave a sudden jolt, and her cheeks flushed with heat.

Ophelia cleared her throat awkwardly. “I must’ve just lost my footing.”

She couldn’t even remember how she’d ended up in Alaric’s arms. ‘I must’ve been so out of it, I didn’t even notice, she thought.

Alaric arched an eyebrow, realizing she’d completely misunderstood what just happened.

A devilish smirk played at his lips as he teased, “It’s alright, Ophelia. I really don’t mind. It’s not every day you fall right into my arms. Honestly, I couldn’t be happier.”

He didn’t let go; instead, he held her even tighter, his face just inches from hers. Their breaths mingled, and the atmosphere between them grew impossibly intimate.

Alaric stiffened, his gaze growing darker and more intense.

He’d only wanted to mess with her a little, but now, with her luscious lips right there, her sweet scent all around him, and that soft, irresistible beauty nestled in his arms, he felt a rush of heat low in his belly. Hunger flickered in his eyes.

His throat worked as he lost control, dipping his head and pressing his lips to hers in a fierce kiss.

“Mmm…” Ophelia stiffened, snapping back to her senses the moment she felt the change in his body. Instinct took over. She pushed him away and scrambled to her feet, practically bolting across the room.

Her reaction was so intense that Alaric snapped out of it too. The second she shoved him, he let her go, not putting up any resistance.

For a few seconds, neither of them spoke. The tension hung heavy in the air, awkward and electric.

Alaric stared at Ophelia, her cheeks burning red. There was a flash of something like anger in her eyes, but it only made her look even more tempting. His gaze grew darker, a mix of frustration and desire swirling in his
