Chapter 335
Chapter 335
Ophelia got in the car and soon arrived at Rowle Manor.
As soon as she stepped into the living room, she saw that almost everyone was there.
Seeing the room full of people, Ophelia walked over calmly, smiling as she greeted them, “Grandpa.”
“Ophelia, you’re here,” Tristan said with a gentle smile, waving her over. “Come, sit down.”
“Grandpa, why is everyone here? Is something going on?” Ophelia asked, acting innocent.
“There is something,” Tristan replied with a grunt, casting a glance at Asher and Henry.
Embarrassment flashed across their faces, but they didn’t have time to worry about that now. They had to shift the blame, or if Tristan lost his temper, they’d be the ones in trouble.
“Dad, we admit we didn’t think this through, but we were just trying to help the company grow. You can’t really blame us for this, can you?” Henry said, his smile tinged with apology.
“Honestly, we were the ones who got played. If we’d known she was Rowan Draven, we wouldn’t have wasted our time and ended up embarrassing ourselves,” Asher grumbled, sounding annoyed.
“Dad, this really isn’t our fault. Ophelia kept everything so tightly under wraps. Being Rowan Draven should’ve been a good thing, but she hid it from all of us. Was she trying to guard against us or something?” Scarlett Rowle said, her tone dripping with sarcasm.
“Scarlett, Ophelia just doesn’t like to show off. That’s all, Victoria said, her tone firm as she stood up for Ophelia.
She never had much to do with them anyway, so what was there to be guarded about?
Besides, everyone only found out about this recently. It wasn’t like she was keeping it from just Asher and Henry.
“That’s good. It’s better not to show off,” Tristan said, clearly pleased. Then he shot Asher a pointed look. “At least she’s not like those who aim high but can’t deliver.”
Asher’s face turned sour, and he protested, feeling pretty frustrated, “Dad, what do you mean by that?”
With everyone here, wasn’t this just humiliating him in front of the whole family?
“Just telling those who can’t actually do the job not to bite off more than they can chew. People should keep their feet on the ground,” Tristan said, clearly annoyed.
‘It’s bad enough if you can’t do the job, but acting all ambitious on top of that? Seriously, give me a break! Tristan thought.
“Dad, you-” Asher’s face went ghostly pale, looking like he was about to explode, but Henry quickly grabbed his arm, managing a strained smile and nodding. “Dad’s right. We’ll work on it.”
He leaned in and whispered to Asher, “Asher, chill. We’ve got bigger things to worry about.”
After all, the old man was already pissed. If they didn’t handle this just right, they’d probably get shipped off overseas again.
Asher forced himself to take a few deep breaths, swallowing his anger. He knew better than to blow up now.
“Dad, honestly, Henry and Asher were just trying to do the right thing. You’re not getting any younger, and they wanted to come back, spend more time with you, and enjoy some real family moments together.
“They figured if they could snag the Maplewood Capital project, it’d make you proud and show you they’ve really grown up. It’s just…”
Claire Rowle paused, her smile a little bittersweet. “No one expected Rowan Draven to be Ophelia. If they’d known, they wouldn’t have messed up and made you angry.”
“Claire, I don’t really get what you’re saying,” Ophelia said, frowning at her. “Are you seriously saying Asher and Henry messed up because of me? That just sounds absurd.”
