Chapter 336
Chapter 336
‘Wouldn’t that mean you got exactly what you wanted?’ Ophelia thought to herself.
‘Just to satisfy your own selfish ambitions, you’d risk the whole company!’
“Ophelia’s right. If she wasn’t Rowan Draven, you wouldn’t be here playing the victim. You’d be acting all high and mighty around here,” Tristan said, his eyes darkening.
Claire couldn’t help but frown. ‘Ophelia’s just way too sharp with her words, and the old man is totally biased, always sticking up for her, no matter what!’
Asher and Henry exchanged a glance, then nodded at each other.
“Dad, I admit I didn’t think this through,” Asher said, lowering his head in apology.
“But we were misled,” Henry sighed, sounding helpless. “Zoe said she could take care of the planning, so we thought, hey, why not let her try? We’re all family anyway.”
“Zoe?” Tristan’s brows knitted together. ‘Zoe was the one who did the planning?’
“Asher, what does Zoe have to do with this? She’s still in school. How could she possibly handle the planning? She has no clue about any of this,” Victoria said, genuinely surprised. She’d never imagined Zoe could pull something like that off.
“She’s studying design, not finance. How could she possibly help you with the planning?” Adrian said, clearly skeptical. ‘No way this is real,’ he thought.
“She said she picked it up on her own, just wanted to do something impressive so you’d finally notice her. With everyone always focused on Ophelia, Zoe felt pretty left out and honestly, it hurt her.
“We’ve watched Zoe grow up, and seeing her so down made us feel bad, so we just went along with it,” Henry said with a heavy sigh.
“Zoe, is that really how you feel?” Victoria stared at her, genuinely shocked.
‘I always thought Zoe was the sweet, obedient one. Who would’ve guessed she had these feelings bottled up?’ Victoria couldn’t believe it.
At home, Zoe had never shown the slightest sign of being upset. No one ever realized she felt misunderstood or left out by the family.
“Zoe, is what Henry said true?” Oliver’s face was icy cold, and his presence was downright intimidating. Zoe’s face went pale, then flushed, her mind racing as she tried to figure out her next move.
She knew the whole mess had come to light, but had no idea how things had spiraled out of control.
Called over out of the blue and left completely in the dark, she’d just kept quiet, doing her best to fade into the background.
Now it seemed like Asher and Henry were ready to make her take the fall, but at least they weren’t cutting her off completely. They were still giving her an escape route.
Now, it all came down to her choice.
‘Should I just admit everything, or go along with Asher and Henry’s story?’ Zoe wondered, her thoughts spinning.
If she came clean, she’d lose the Rowle family’s trust for good.
“Why aren’t you saying anything?” Oliver’s voice turned even icier as he watched her expression change again and again.
Zoe’s heart gave a jolt. As the head of Rowle Group, Oliver’s presence was seriously intimidating.
She swallowed nervously and nodded. “Yes… yes.”
At this point, she had no choice but to play along with Asher and Henry.
