Chapter 342
Chapter 342
“Go ahead, Mr. Rowle, just say whatever you’re thinking,” Alaric nodded, more than happy to hear what Tristan had in mind.
“I said before I’d let you two handle your own marriage,” Tristan said, his gaze sharp with the confidence of someone who already knew how things would turn out.
“Ophelia’s been back for a while now, and you two seem to be getting along pretty well. Maybe it’s time to talk about an engagement.”
He could read Alaric’s feelings for Ophelia clear as day, but it was up to Alaric to admit it himself.
He’d originally planned to wait, let the kids figure things out and come to him when they were ready.
But now, with everything that had happened, Zoe’s issue couldn’t be ignored forever.
So he figured he might as well settle everything today. Kill two birds with one stone.
“Grandpa?” Ophelia frowned, feeling a swirl of complicated emotions.
Right now, her thoughts were all over the place. She hadn’t made up her mind about Alaric yet. If they really started talking about it in front of everyone, she’d just feel super awkward and totally at a loss.
Noticing Ophelia’s reluctance, Alaric’s gaze briefly grew more reserved before he spoke up, his tone gentle but firm. “Since Mr. Rowle said this is up to us, we should be the ones to decide.”
“Now that things have come this far, do you two still need to think it over?” Tristan stared at Alaric, feeling like he just couldn’t get a read on the guy.
He’d been watching Alaric these days and was convinced the guy was genuinely into Ophelia.
Alaric even said he came here for Ophelia today, so why was he pulling back at the last minute?
Alaric caught Ophelia’s gaze just as she looked at him. For a moment, something unspoken lingered in the air between them.
Ophelia was taken aback by Alaric’s words, but she let out a silent sigh of relief deep inside.
Noticing her subtle reaction, Alaric’s lips twitched with a barely-there smile.
‘Ah, this girl… I’ll let her take her time, he thought to himself.
Turning back to Tristan with an easy air, Alaric said, “Actually, I came here to ask Ophelia to come to the hospital and keep me company. She’s the one overseeing my treatment now.”
Tristan blinked in surprise, not expecting things to take such a turn.
“Dad, since Alaric said that, maybe we should just let it go,” Asher said, secretly relieved and trying to persuade Tristan to drop the subject.
“Yeah, Dad, Ophelia’s still young. There’s no need to rush things,” Scarlett jumped in, agreeing with Asher.
“Grandpa, shouldn’t we deal with Uncle Asher and Zoe first?” Ophelia jumped in, eager to change the subject.’ Ugh, can we not talk about engagements right now? This is way too awkward,’ she thought.
