Chapter 347
Chapter 347
Alaric kept playing with the ends of her hair as he spoke slowly, “I’m bored at the hospital by myself. Ophelia, can you keep me company?”
“Huh? What do you mean?” Ophelia blinked, not quite following him.
“I don’t need a nurse anymore, but I still want someone with me. Ophelia, will you stay?” He’d spent the whole day alone at the hospital and missed her like crazy.
Looking into his sharp yet open eyes, Ophelia just couldn’t bring herself to say no.
But…
After hesitating for a moment, Ophelia finally said, “I can only promise to stay with you at the hospital at night. During the day, I still have to go to the office.”
Especially with everything going on right now, and her older brother already getting things started, she couldn’t afford to fall behind.
“That’s fine,” Alaric said, a satisfied smile tugging at his lips.
Honestly, this was more than he’d hoped for. He’d thought she’d say no.
Ophelia let out a quiet sigh, her gaze growing more serious.
Even though his wounds had healed, with her watching over him, he’d definitely recover faster.
After all, he got hurt saving her. She owed it to him to stick around until he was truly better.
“Ophelia, you haven’t had dinner yet, have you? Let’s grab something to eat before we head back to the hospital,” Alaric suggested, his eyes softening.
They’d left Rowle Manor in such a rush earlier that they hadn’t even had a chance to eat.
Honestly, with the tension in the air, it was probably for the best that they didn’t stick around for dinner.
Ophelia realized she was hungry too, so she nodded. “Alright.”
When they got to the restaurant, they had just settled in and placed their order.
“Ophelia!” someone called out, sounding genuinely happy to see her.
Ophelia looked up to see George Brown heading their way, a pleased look on his face.
Alaric’s eyes narrowed, his whole demeanor turning icy as he said coldly, “Mr. Brown, what a coincidence.”
He really hadn’t expected to run into George just for a meal. What a mood killer.
“Looks like you’re in pretty good spirits, Mr. Caldwell. Even being hospitalized can’t keep you from dining out,” George replied, his tone laced with sarcasm.
On the surface, both of them acted like nothing was wrong, but the tension between them was thick enough to cut with a knife.
Alaric smirked, sounding a little too pleased with himself. “Just taking Ophelia out for dinner since she was hungry.”
George’s face darkened for a split second before he smoothed it over. “I’m here for dinner too. Hope I’m not intruding.”
But before Alaric could even respond, George had already pulled up a chair and sat down, not giving him a chance to say no.
Ophelia just shrugged, totally chill about it. “We just got here ourselves. If you don’t mind, Mr. Brown, feel free to join us.”
It was just dinner anyway. Since they’d bumped into each other, there was no harm in sharing a table.
Alaric was secretly annoyed, but kept his cool. He glanced at George and said, “You must be pretty busy, Mr. Brown, having dinner this late?”
