Chapter 348
Chapter 348
“Not really,” Ophelia replied offhandedly, then asked, “Is there something you need?”
“Yeah, actually,” George said with a polite smile. “It’s about the project. I wanted to go over the details with you in person, and I’m thinking about making some changes to our joint project moving forward.”
“Sure,” Ophelia agreed without hesitation. “Just come by New City Tower tomorrow. We’ll hash out the details then.”
“Alright, I’ll be there on time,” George replied with a polite smile, looking every bit the professional.
He was playing it off like it was all about work.
But the more Alaric looked at him, the more he couldn’t stand the guy, his eyes grew colder.
“Ophelia, let’s eat before it gets cold,” Alaric said offhandedly, pulling Ophelia’s focus back to him.
Then he glanced at George, not bothering to sound sincere. “If you’re hungry, Mr. Brown, go ahead and order something. We only got food for Ophelia and me since we didn’t know you’d show up.”
George’s lips twitched. ‘Is he trying to kick me out?’ he thought.
“No need, Mr. Caldwell. I’ll check out the menu myself,” George said, making it clear he wasn’t going anywhere as he picked up the menu and started browsing.
Alaric shot George an icy glare. ‘Seriously, this guy is stubborn, he thought.
Turning his attention back to Ophelia, Alaric doted on her, constantly serving her food and reminding her, “You love this one, so have some more.”
“That’s enough,” Ophelia gave Alaric a look, her eyes full of mock annoyance. ‘Why is he being so over-the-top all of a sudden?’ she grumbled inwardly.
“Eat a bit more. You’ve been looking after me so much, you’re starting to look too skinny,” Alaric said softly, his tone full of concern.
Ophelia shot Alaric a warning glance. ‘Seriously, quit the show already,’ she thought.
Sure, she’d been taking care of him, but it’s not like she was actually losing weight.
It wasn’t like it was a big deal, and honestly, since he got hurt saving her, it was only right for her to look after him.
Alaric acted like he didn’t even see her warning glare, just kept up the sweet act. “Come on, Ophelia, eat up. Want me to feed you myself?”
Ophelia shivered at the thought, unable to even picture Alaric actually trying to feed her like that.
“Alright, let’s just eat,” Ophelia surrendered, ducking her head and digging in.
She definitely didn’t want to die of embarrassment in public, so the best move was to ignore him and just mind her own business and eat.
Ophelia didn’t argue. She just bowed her head and started eating, and George’s face lost some color.
He didn’t believe a word Alaric said, but seeing Ophelia go along with it made him waver. His chest tightened with jealousy.
“Sir, is that everything?” the waiter asked, noticing George had gone quiet.
George snapped out of it and replied, “Yeah, that’s fine.”
Right now, eating was the last thing on his mind.
Even with Ophelia right by his side, George still felt totally bummed out.
Alaric caught the shift in George’s expression, arched his brow, and let a smirk of contempt tug at his lips.
Anyone who set their sights on what was his? Alaric would never let that slide.
Once dinner was over, they all headed out of the restaurant together.
