Chapter 349
Chapter 349
Ophelia tried to pull away, but Alaric was too strong and dragged her straight into the car.
“Hey, what are you doing?” Ophelia shot him a grumpy glare. ‘Can’t you just let me walk on my own?’ she thought.
She struggled again, and Alaric finally let her go. Seeing George’s pissed-off face was all he needed to feel satisfied.
As the car drove off, George just stood there, his eyes lingering on it for a long time.
“Mr. Brown, should we… leave?” his assistant asked, stepping closer.
George finally looked away, his voice low. “Let’s go.”
Once inside, George leaned back, his voice cold as ice. “Has Caldwell Group gotten a little too comfortable lately?”
“Uh?” The assistant froze for a moment, then realized what George meant. “Understood. I’ll handle it.”
“Mm.” George turned to stare out the window, his eyes so dark and chilling, it was almost scary.

After they got back to the hospital, Ophelia checked Alaric over herself.
“Looks like everything’s fine. You’re recovering better than I expected,” Ophelia said, finally letting out a relieved sigh.
“I’m really fine, Ophelia. You don’t need to fuss over me,” Alaric said, sounding relaxed. Now that his wounds had healed, there was even less reason for her to worry.
Ophelia shot him a look of pure exasperation and snarked, “Trust me, I wouldn’t worry if certain patients actually listened to their doctor and knew how to take care of themselves.” ‘Honestly, does he even know what rest means?’ she grumbled inwardly.
If he could just behave and actually rest for once, she wouldn’t have to stress about him at all.
Alaric flashed a playful grin and said, “If you stick around, Ophelia, I’ll be the most obedient patient you’ve ever seen.”
“Don’t worry. You got hurt because of me, so I’ll see you through until you’re discharged,” Ophelia said, giving his shoulder a reassuring pat. “Alright, go lie down and get some rest.”
With that, Ophelia started tidying up, putting away all the stuff she’d just used for the checkup.
Alaric watched her move around with practiced ease, and for some reason, he felt a little bitter inside.
‘Is she only looking after me because I got hurt for her?’ Alaric wondered, a wave of self-doubt washing over him.
“Ophelia, can’t you just care about me for real?” Alaric murmured, his voice soft and wounded, heart aching.
‘If she’s just here because she feels guilty, then what’s the point?’ Alaric thought, feeling emptier than ever.
“Eh?” Ophelia blinked, not quite catching what he said, and glanced over at him in confusion.
“It’s nothing. I’m going to rest,” Alaric mumbled, shuffling slowly toward the bed.
Ophelia frowned, feeling a bit confused. ‘Why does he suddenly seem so down? Is he upset?’ she wondered.
‘What’s gotten into him?’ she thought, puzzled.
‘He was fine just now. Why did his mood tank all of a sudden?’ Ophelia mused.
Ophelia bit her lip, studying Alaric as he walked back to the bed, pulled back the covers, and lay down. He stared up at the ceiling with a lost, lonely look in his eyes.
‘Looks like something’s really bothering him, and it’s definitely not a happy thought, Ophelia guessed to herself.
‘Anyone could see he’s not happy at all, she mused.

Instinctively, Ophelia walked over to the bed and gave Alaric’s shoulder a gentle push. “What’s wrong? Did something happen?”
“Ophelia,” Alaric said, suddenly turning to her, his gaze troubled. “Have you really never had any feelings for me? Not even a little?”
“What?” Ophelia blinked, caught off guard. ‘What is he even talking about?’ she was completely at a loss.
