Chapter 354
Chapter 354
“I’ve already sent the project proposals to Ms. Prescott, and I’m sure she’s filled you in. This time, I’m hoping we can take our partnership to the next level…”
The meeting went on all morning, and as noon rolled around, it looked like it wasn’t ending anytime soon.
“Knock, knock, knock.”
A knock at the door interrupted the meeting.
Ella poked her head in and asked softly, “Boss, it’s almost time for lunch break. Any plans for lunch?”
As she spoke, Ella shot a look at George. It was obvious what she meant.
Ophelia caught the hint and glanced at George too, looking a bit unsure.
She hadn’t noticed how late it’d gotten; she never expected the meeting to run this long.
“If you’re okay with it, how about we just eat lunch here and then wrap things up this afternoon?” George suggested, giving a casual smile.
“Sure, I’ll have Ella take care of it,” Ophelia replied, then turned to Ella. “Book us a table at the restaurant across the street. We’ll head over there.”
“Got it.” Ella nodded, then paused and nodded toward the office. “Should we invite Mr. Caldwell too?”
Ophelia frowned, hesitating for a moment before finally saying, “Let’s have him come along.”
‘It’s lunchtime. I can’t just leave Alaric to eat by himself, she thought.
“Got it,” Ella replied, then slipped out of the office:
Ophelia flashed George a friendly smile. “Let’s go grab some lunch.”
“Sounds good,” George replied, and the two of them headed out of the conference room together.
But as soon as they stepped out, Ella hurried back and whispered to Ophelia, “I knocked on Mr. Caldwell’s door, but he didn’
t answer. Maybe he’s napping or something. What should I do?”
“I’ll go check on him,” Ophelia replied, then glanced at George. “Ella can show you the way, I’ll join you in a bit.”
George couldn’t shake the feeling this was all about Alaric, even if he didn’t know the details.
“Maybe I’ll just wait for you,” George said, not really wanting to head out alone.
Ophelia figured it wouldn’t take long to grab Alaric, so she nodded. “Alright, we’ll be there soon.”
With that, Ophelia headed into the office.
Sure enough, Alaric was leaning back on the couch, eyes closed. He really had dozed off.
‘Has he really been sitting here like this all morning?’ Ophelia muttered, shaking her head in exasperation as she walked over to the couch. She gave his shoulder a gentle tap. “Alaric, wake up.”

Alaric groggily opened his eyes and, seeing Ophelia standing there, immediately reached out and pulled her close, burying his face against her waist.
“Why’ve you been working so hard, Ophelia?” he mumbled, his voice low and teasing, still thick with sleep.
Ophelia scowled, clearly annoyed. “Seriously, let go.”
He didn’t respond for a while, so Ophelia glanced down and realized he’d actually dozed off again.
